For example, certain tripod heads will not attach because the threaded slot is larger than the tripod mount, so the bushing reduces the 3/8"-16 thread down to a 1/4"-20 size allowing the head to attach. Because of the flathead screwdriver slot, the bushing can be easily removed to convert the mounting thread to its original size.

What's Nice About The Right Stuff Reducers Are They Screw All The Way In The 3/8"-16 Hole And Don't Poke Out Like Some Other Brands. I Wanted To Mount A Certain Baseplate To My Camera And I Tried Other Reducers, But When Screwing Them All The Way In, The Rim Still Pokes Out, Therefore When Mounting The Baseplate It Couldn't Be Flush With The Camera. These Reducers Go Past The Surface Which Means You Can Mount Anything Flush Against The Hardware You're Connecting Using 1/4"-20 Screws.
