Enjoy your audio from nearly any source with the satin black Audioengine A5+ Wireless Bluetooth Speaker System. This system features Bluetooth with aptX HD technology for wireless connectivity, plus stereo RCA and 1/8" inputs for traditional wired devices. Integrated Design
The speaker cabinets, drivers, bass ports, amplifiers, and passive crossovers are all tuned together, helping to provide a more efficient speaker system that requires less power than passive speakers and a separate amplifier or similar component. With all the electronics built into the left speaker, it's simple to connect your favorite audio device.
Bluetooth Audio
The Bluetooth built into the A5+ Wireless features aptX HD coding for enhanced sound quality when paired with an aptX HD-enabled source device; it's also backward-compatible with the SBC and AAC codecs for universal Bluetooth compatibility. aptX HD also allows for a broader Bluetooth range – up to 100' – for multi-room use.
24-Bit DAC
The A5+ Wireless uses the AKM AK4396A DAC for upsampling, helping to achieve a higher signal-to-noise ratio and a lower noise floor.
Amplifier Design
The amplifiers in the A5+ Wireless are located in the left speaker and features a Class-A/B analog monoblock design. This is engineered to provide enhanced audio quality and flexibility, and all the circuit boards for the power and preamp sections are vertically mounted for augmented mechanical shock protection.
Driver Design
The A5+ Wireless speakers use ferrofluid-cooled silk-dome tweeters with neodymium magnets. Silk tweeters are designed to hold up well under high power, and the edge-driven design helps provide a smooth response. The woofers are Kevlar woven-glass aramid composite with rubber surrounds. Kevlar helps the woofer retain its shape when being driven at high levels. The woofers are housed in cast-aluminum frames, which help provide high rigidity and high heat dispersion.
Power Transformers
Power transformers are critical to audio performance, particularly in the low-end. The A5+ Wireless speakers use gapless-core toroidal transformers, which are designed with a tighter radiated magnetic field, translating to lower noise. They are lighter than the more common "EI" transformer and generate less heat.
Magnetic Shielding
Both of the A5+ Wireless speakers are magnetically shielded for safe placement near other electronics.
Additional Features
 • RCA and 1/8" inputs for easy connection to a variety of audio sources, including a turntable or TV
 • Variable RCA output for subwoofer connection
 • 0.75" thick cabinets

We've been enjoying these for over a year with an Audio-Technica turntable. Puts out great sound for small speakers.

These speakers were an upgrade from Bose Companion speakers, and they are excellent! Serious ability to deliver high quality sound at both low and high volumes. Great separation and clarity.

Work Well on my Desktop

I looked at various options before settling on the A5+ speakers. The powered KEF's were too expensive, and others have a built-in DAC, whereas I use a nice AQ DragonFly. The A5+ speakers have a nice midrange, decent bass response, and good highs. The bamboo finish is attractive. I also bought the small desktop stands, and they work well in my setup. My serious listening is done upstairs, but these work well to share music with my wife while we are sitting together.

Highly recommended speakers

These came recommended from a friend and I'm passing on that recommendation! Well rounded, room filling sound. Was able to patch them into my old school set up via the RCA jack. Be carefull when ordering though. I thought these had bluetooth built in but they do not. I considered returning them for the bluetooth equiped model but instead got a quality bluetooth receiver to plug in and that works just fine.

The next step up

At some point, those other tiny desktop speakers are no longer what you're looking for. A hearing-aid wearer needs the best fidelity and clarity. The Audioengine speakers have real components, and are nice and clean from soft to loud. Lute, pipe organ, classical guitar, singing voice - all nicely done. Speech is easy to hear. Note, as they say in the instructions, the speakers do have some break-in. At first, they sound a little bright and tinny, and mellow out as the larger element comes to itself. Sub-woofer needed? Possibly not, if you're happy to hear the deepest tones as background. These speakers do that job. If you want room-shaking whallup, then you'll need a bigger cone and heavy mass, etc., a sub. Altogether, the 2 bookshelf speakers are very nice for size and price.

Great sound - but needs a sub

I'm a former musician and in the entertainment business. These sound great. But they do need a sub. Will order one.

working with limited space, 8" shelf but has 12" depth & 4ft width. can these speakers be placed on their side and still work good? also does it come with anything to decouple the speakers from a tv stand/shelf?
Asked by: Kevin
It is not recommended but sure you can do that and they will still work good. The A5+ does not come with any attachments for a stand, they are made to sit on any flat surface.

Do they support Bluetooth?
Asked by: Sanjay
The Audioengine A5+ does not support bluetooth. If you want to use them with bluetooth connectivity, then you will need a bluetooth receiver to connect to them like B&H # AUB1

Don't know, but they function otherwise quite well. You might see if you can check the manual on this.

question

can i connect the speakers with a normal amplifier? if not - is it possible to turn off the build-in amp in the left speaker?
Asked by: Anonymous
You can't connect a normal amplifier to the A5+ nor bypass the internal amp. The amp is located on only one of the speakers, meaning you could use the other one, stand alone, with a different amp. I don't see the benefit of that set up, but if you needed it is doable at almost no risk: matching WATT/OHMS is key.I hope it helps, and please consider Spanish is my native language, so maybe my answer is not accurate enough in english.
