A generally good kit

My only complaint is the folds in the fabric which need to be steamed or pressed out prior to use.

Why didn't I buy this years ago???

I design jewelry and take all of my own product photos. I had a shooting tent and was using painting lights from the hardware store for lighting, since I had those in the house already. The current shooting tent was very annoying because I kept getting shadows from all of the zippers for all of the various openings that it had. So, I was looking for a new tent, not necessarily a whole set up. When I saw the price of this one I thought it would be nice to have a more compact set of lights. I received it and this set up is the best and the lights are awesome as well. The picture I attached was taken using the auto white balance on my camera and it is absolutely true to life. The little table makes video shooting easier. I don't know how long it has been around, but I wish I would have bought it years ago. I definitely recommend this product.

A Kit with a few issues

I just received this so I am early in my experience with it. But initially, I note the following shortfalls: 1) The light stand can become top heavy. The Tripod base isn’t wide enough to support the light head in all positions. 2) There are deep creases in the background pieces. Sure maybe you can iron them out but why not supply them rolled over a tube so they come out flat? 3) The legs that attach to the platform need stronger magnets. The legs fall out way to easily. 4) There are no instructions for using the light tent (e.g., background attachment options, how to fold, etc.) The website they refer you to for instructional videos does not have a video on the product page. 5) Some similar kits come with a carrying case to hold all components. That would be nice here. 6) I thought the backgrounds needed to be a little wider. With larger items inside, it was hard to not capture the white background. It was fine with smaller items, but you purchase a bigger tent like this to photographic larger items! The kit will work out fine, but a few minor improvements would make it really quite awesome for the non-professional.

Pretty good kit, simple set up

A little time consuming, however everything folds up for tidy break down. Haven't used the lights in it just yet, but the results are good quality. Good starter kit for product photography.

Lamps were great value, packs down into a compact kit

The box was bigger than I thought. The lamps alone were worth the purchase. The lamps were sturdy and built with metal. The bulbs were very bright, but you can't dim them. The ac power cords on the lamps were surprisingly long. The box was made of thin nylon cloth, but were enough to diffuse the light from the lamps. If you want more diffusion, you just pull the lamps farther away. I used these to take great pictures of wine bottles. The only bad thing is the nylon material remains wrinkled once you erect the box. So you really can't use this as a backdrop. You'll need to use photoshop to remove the wrinkled box material from the background. This box is really designed to diffuse the lamp light and create a bright lighting environment for your products.

Nice Kit For Low Cost Budgets

This is a nice kit for a low cost budget. The cost is low and you get nice bright light sources for product photography. There are some downside to this kit, the biggest/annoying/inconvenient issue I noticed is that the lights are top heavy and the tripod base is not wide enough to support the lamps. I used them to test out a few shots and ended up having to catch the lamps twice as they started to tip while trying to move them and place them. I could see them tipping over and since the light bulb sticks out it is exposed and most likely will break on impact with the ground. A simple possible solution could be to get a small weight to attach to the bottom of the tripods to make it not so top heavy.

Push two sides together collapsing the tent into a 4 stack of sides. Then twist and collapse the the stack down. It folds down the same way a 5-1 reflector does.

If I’m using a 220 - 240V bulb on the Lamp holder will I need a Stabilizer to stop the bulb from bursting?
Asked by: Sevila
While I am not sure what you mean by a "stabilizer," the Studio Essentials Tabletop Fluorescent 2-Light Product Photography Kit, B&H # STFLU102, is listed as compatible for use with 110-120 VAC, 60 Hz electrical voltage. It does not indicate that it would be compatible with 220-240V 50 Hz electrical voltage.

question

I assume the bulbs are 110 - 120V. If so If I just swap those for bulbs that are 220 - 240V would this still work on 240V current?
Asked by: Jeremy
If you have a 240v circuit then yes you will need 220-240v Bulbs, the 110-120v Bulbs would blow if used with a 240v circuit/supply
