Studio Essentials Pop-Up Reviews
Meets my needs nearly perfectly!
So I have had a chance to use it on a few Zoom calls with friends and family. It works just like it's supposed to! I looped a nylon strap between the two tabs on the long side to hang it from the stand. Then I adjusted it so that it filled the webcam's field and didn't chop off the top of my head. I use it to show family and travel photos as virtual backgrounds. I'll probably find other uses for it, but those will be bonuses. A couple of extra notes: If you need help in getting it back into it's case, look at some videos on YouTube. Once you learn the trick, it's really easy! Other reviewers have stated that the clip on the stand is a little fragile. I heeded their warning and recognize that this is a light duty stand. It should last a long time if it's treated as one.
Wrinkles, stand doesn't work
The stand will not hold the weight of the background. Even when I rest the background on the floor, the stand falls over. No way to elevate the backdrop at all, since the stand is always tipping over. I wanted to return - but there is no option for a blue gray backdrop without the stand...even though the stand doesn't work. Additionally, the entire backdrop is covered in wrinkles upon opening that will not go away. This is not a good investment for self tapes.
Excellent Backdrop
A game changer when you consider I previously used a rolled paper backdrop that got bent and wrinkled in the transfer process. It quickly folds down, for easy transport, and has 2 different color sides to be used depending on the mood of the photoshoot. The stand and attachment were a bit flimsy, but I simple bring along 2 stands and a cross bar, that I brought at B&H, that expands to the desired length. Seems to be a quality product, as well.
Great Portable Backdrop
I purchased this pop-up background kit for on-location headshot jobs and it's been great. The gray is a great neutral and isn't transparent so I can light it properly. It's slightly difficult to fold back up when finished, but there are a lot of YouTube videos on how to easily fold up these backgrounds. If I could give any advice on this product, it would be to make sure you have clean hands, and keep oily skin away from the fabric, as it will stain. Otherwise, I love this kit!
Does the job!
If I have to fold up I can (although I always struggle with it) so it's portable and it's industry standard. Effective and useful.
Great for travel
I do a lot of travel which pretty much eliminated the chance to use green screen because it normally required a couple of c-stands or some other means to hang it. This solves that problem. It's relatively light, but big enough to get decent coverage from the waist up on an interview shot. And it's sturdy enough that it can hang for a single light stand. It's a bit of a hassle to fold back up, but watch a couple of YT videos and it'll be as easy as a flexfil.
Perfect for my needs!
My primary use for this is so I can show virtual backgrounds on Zoom calls to my friends and family out of town. It works perfectly! Although I had to bob and weave to get my head off camera, the images of my grandkids and vacation photos came through just fine. Any wrinkles on the screen were not picked up by my webcam, so I'm not going to bother steaming them out. If I use it for more technical photography, I may have to do it then. I was aware from the other reviews that the clip on the top of the stand was a bit fragile, so I treated it accordingly and it worked just fine. There is not a tab in the center when the screen is horizontal, so I ran a cord between the two tabs and hung the screen that way. It folds up just fine -- if you're not familiar with the technique, there's plenty of YouTube videos.
Stand is worthless - waste of money
You are better off just buying the backdrop and leaning it against the wall. The stand does not hold the backdrop
