Samsung Galaxy S9 overview

  • 1Description

See the light with the Samsung Galaxy S9 SM-G960U 64GB Unlocked Smartphone). Samsung's Dual Aperture feature is the hallmark of the S9, automatically switching based on lighting conditions. Built into the rear 12MP camera, Dual Aperture switches to F2.4 mode in daylight to take sharp and beautiful images and in low-light situations it goes to F1.5 mode to let more light in for brighter and clearer nighttime photos.

The S9's 5.8" Quad HD+ Super AMOLED Infinity Display goes edge-to-edge and curves over both sides so you have minimal visual distractions. The stunning 2960 x 1440 resolution combines with an epic 18.5:9 aspect ratio to give your videos a truly cinematic quality.

Running the Android 8.0 Oreo operating system, this phone is powered by a Qualcomm SDM845 2.8 GHz (2.65 GHz Quad + 1.7 GHz Quad) Octa-Core processor and 4GB of RAM. You can store your apps, AR emojis and Super Slow-mo clips on 64GB of built-in storage, which can be expanded via an (optional) microSD card up to 400GB in size.

This phone is unlocked and compatible with GSM/4G LTE networks. Connect to the internet and other devices with built-in 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac 2.4+5 GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0. The Galaxy S9 also supports NFC technology for making phone-to-phone data transfers or mobile payments.

GSM + CDMA / 4G LTE Wireless Connectivity
This phone is designed to work on select GSM and CDMA networks and is 4G LTE capable. LTE is an advanced cellular network data protocol capable of data speeds so fast that they compete with wired broadband Internet providers. With an LTE connection, this phone should have no problem streaming HD video, downloading apps, uploading photos, or anything else that requires a high-speed data connection. The phone is also backwards compatible with 3G and 2G data for instances when you can't get LTE. In addition to cellular wireless, this phone also features Bluetooth, NFC and Wi-Fi connectivity.

Note: Not compatible with all cellular networks. Please make sure your provider uses a frequency or band that this phone supports and that they will allow you to used carrier unlocked phones. You can check which bands this phone works within the Specifications.
North American Variant / US Compatible LTE
The SM-G960U is a US variant of the S9. The SM-G960U's LTE radio is tuned to frequencies that are most often used in the United States and North America. It can also be used in other parts of the world; however, LTE access may be limited or unsupported, depending on the network. To ensure this phone will work with your carrier please check to make sure the frequencies your carrier uses are supported by this phone. The full list of compatible carrier frequencies can be found here, the frequencies this phone supports can be found in the product specs.
Dual Aperture
Samsung's Dual Aperture feature works like the human eye. In the dark, our pupil's open up to let more light in to help us see better and constrict when there's more light. The rear lens of the S9's rear 12MP camera can automatically shift between an F2.4 and F1.5 aperture based on lighting conditions. In low-light, it shifts to F1.5 to let more light in to give you brighter and clearer nighttime photos, with no fine-tuning required. You can also take control of the situation by manually switching between the two apertures as you see fit.
Super Slow-mo at 960 FPS
The slower you go, the more epic those amazing, once-in-a-lifetime or hysterical moments can be in your video. Thanks to an enhanced speed sensor, the S9 is capable of slowing it down by shooting an incredibly fast 960 frames per second in HD resolution. If you take an especially awesome Super Slow-mo shot, you can relive them on the S9's lock screen.

Helping you make sure you get that perfect Super Slow-mo shot in one take is Samsung's Motion Detection feature. When on, a yellow square appears on the screen during a video and Super Slow-mo is activated for the entire video once motion is detected inside the square. That level of control means less frustration and time wasted and more slow-mo videos to share online.
App Pair
In a plethora of cool features, this one is near the top for increasing your productivity. App Pair takes advantage of the S9's ability to do two things at once with split-screen and window-over-window capabilities. You can setup your own App Pairs, which tie two apps together and store the icon on your homescreen or in the Edge panel. Now, with the tap of a single icon, you can launch both apps at once and work on them in side-by-side.
Get Animated
Personalize your conversations with animated emojis based on how you look. With the S9, you can take selfies of different expressions and convert them into an animated version of yourself or who you want to be. Change up the hair, glasses and clothes so they can share your personal style. You get 18 animated stickers of yourself automatically that show a wide range of emotion when chatting.
Superior Sound
We love to watch videos and listen to music with our phones and now with the S9, you can enjoy louder and crisper audio thanks to built-in stereo speakers specifically tuned by AKG. It's pure sound that's 1.4x more powerful than previous Galaxy phones.

The S9 takes mobile entertainment to new heights with the inclusion of Dolby Atmos technology, which gives you multi-dimensional sound that puts you in the center of a theater-like experience.
Intelligent Scan Security
Our phones capture our lives, so keeping them secure and locked is extremely important, which is why Samsung gives you six different methods to secure them. In addition to the standard PIN, Password and Pattern methods of locking your phone, the S9 offers biometric methods that are tied to you and you alone. For example, a built-in fingerprint scanner on the backside of the phone is conveniently located below the camera and is flush with the phone's back, giving you a quick and unique method of unlocking your phone.

The S9 gets more high-tech with facial recognition and iris scanning. It's designed to identify you in bright sunlight, low light and even if when you're wearing sunglasses.
Advanced Contrast Enhancement
See your photos as they were meant to be seen. View your photos and videos vividly on the S9's display. The contrast is increased when you're outside, so even in broad daylight you can see stunning detail on-screen.

    Samsung Galaxy S9 reviews

Galaxy S9 SM-G960U 64GB Smartphone (Unlocked, Midnight Black) is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 72.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Galaxy To Date I absolutely love my new Samsung Galaxy S9 in replacement of my S7. So far, I have not experienced any issues in relation to the device. Everything has just been a breeze with the hardware down to operating Android 8.0. At first I was a little confused about the device being more tall compared to previous models but it works out perfect for holding it with one hand. I get roughly about 2 days on a single charge which is not bad figuring I'm on the road all the time traveling an average of 250 Miles using GPS, streaming music, and constantly emailing my Clients.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from S9 is a solid leap up from Galaxy S8 The audio performance is a such a huge improvement over a single speaker phone, specifically my S8, the new S9 sounds like a boombox. Great stereo. and surround sound. The overall performance is a pretty big step up, mostly due to the 845 Qualcomm, some due to the Oreo 8. Apps load quicker, and simultaneous running apps do not slow other apps in use. In the short time that I have used the camera, indoor photos are significantly better than the S8, with much better color and detail. My AR Emoji makes me look a lot more handsome than I actually am. Nice touch. Thanks Samsung. The S8 Galaxy theme is better than the new S9 theme.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Little disappointed with the touch screen I recently changed from galaxy s8. I have been using this for a week now and to be honest the product does not have much improvement from the previous model. I would say the battery lasts longer and camera a little better (but not a significant improvement from s8). One thing I noticed about this is though, I have trouble typing sometimes. Especially when I am trying to type "a" or "l" on the keyboard, I find myself pressing repeatedly which was not the case with my previous galaxy s8. I am not too sure if this only happens to mine but it is very disappointing to see that Samsung did not get the basic right.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Galaxy S9 This is a great phone. I upgraded from a galaxy s6 and I love it! The camera, screen, battery life, and sound is great! Even my brother who got an iphone X likes my phone better. I'm very impressed with this phone and samsung, please dont every change your quality! I also enrolled in galaxy upgrade and look forward to getting to S10 next year! I'm paying hard earned money for this phone, and I'm very pleased with it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A person who is switched from IOS to S9. I do not want to persuade anybody to use it but it does done well on all feature that I needs such as Camera like a pro snapshot, quick and great smooth processor also has most important thing us long lasting battery ( I'v been useing Mid mode and HD screen mode and shut off all background app). I had been compared S9 vs X, the result is S9 has 1 steps on all hardware and abilities more than X but X has still greatest design and smooth OS, looks gorgeous. Finally I have willing every body to try S9 for one day. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best for me so far After how many years my husband and I switched to Samsung since it contains a lot of features. Its actually not so hard to switch cause its really user friendly. I am actually a camera addict that's why I really loved it, especially the AR Emojis! My friends also love it when I use it while I'm taking a video and singing my favorite songs for my hubby. I can actually use it all day without charging. There was a time when it logs but its pretty fine, you just have to wait a second or 3. Overall I really love it. I am actually recommending this to my friends already.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I hate my phone I have had a lot of problems with this phone. I took it back to Verizon before my 14 days were up and told them I hated it. All was done is they called customer service and they were supposed to have fixed the issues. I continue to have dropped calls, people not being able to hear me and poor service at home and many places that I had no problem with my old phone. As soon as I am able I can I plan to get another phone but I am stuck with this one for 2 years! I have told many of my friends NOT to purchase this phone. I would not recommend it to anyone. Going to Verizon doesn't do any good. It is Not worth the money! My husband has the S8 and has no problem with it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from One word: Bixby! I could share my disappointment with the overlarge size of this phone, the lack of responsiveness on the touch screen, the inflated price, lack of hi def and the unbelievable amount of bloatware on it... But all of that pales compared to the disaster than is Bixby! Not only do I not want it, finding out that Samsung has dedicated a button to it that interferes with the volume buttons about half the time - adjust the button and here's Bixby telling you that you haven't yet set things up. This phone went back for a refund and I had my old Galaxy S5 reactivated. Unless and until Samsung fixes this Bixby nightmare, this might me my last Samsung phone. What a complete disappointment!
