ikan Pivot overview

  • 1Description

The ikan PIVOT is a 3-axis handheld gimbal stabilizer for DSLRs, camcorders, mirrorless, or cine-style cameras weighing up to an impressive eight pounds. The PIVOT offers unlimited 360° rotation along the pan, tilt, and roll axes, and features a pressure-sensitive joystick for precision control. An angled support arm enables you to operate the gimbal along the roll axis while having an unobstructed view of the camera's display screen. Advanced image stabilization helps produce smooth, cinematic moves, and a point-and-lock mode will hold the camera in a fixed gimbal position until reset.

Design creative time-lapse shots using the PIVOT and the free, downloadable iOS/Android gimbal app. An integrated OLED display displays the selected operation mode and battery life information. Designed with a quick release baseplate compatible with Manfrotto 501PL plates, the PIVOT has two 1/4"-20 threaded accessory mounting holes and a 3/8"-16 threaded hole for mounting onto a tripod, monopod, or other support.

The PIVOT runs on the three supplied 18650 batteries that provide 8 to 10 hours of continuous runtime, and up to 20 hours in standby mode. A small folding tripod that can be used to support the gimbal on a flat level surface is included.

PIVOT Angled 3-Axis Handheld Gimbal Stabilizer is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it. Yes accessories are not included. I just wanted to write, that for a gimbal with an 8 lb payload it has answered the call for me. I typically shoot with a Sony A7Sii and Sony FE PZ 28-135mm which is a big lens. It totals in weight over 5lbs but the main problem it's a tall lens. I maxed out the height capacity but it balances perfectly. It does take some time to get the gimbal calibrated. Ikan has a step by step instruction video that helps more than just the app. The app could be better. Once you calibrated and get the basics of balancing, it is an easy tool to use.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Malfunctioning I usually don't write reviews but felt since there have been none so far, I decided to share my experience. I had high hopes for this product as I pre-ordered it and waited an through the back ordered process to receive it. Once I got it I was excited, but that soon wore off as I examined the contents of the package. The stabilizer comes in a nice soft case, inside were three batteries, a micro usb cable, mini screwdriver and instructions. After reading the instructions, I was confused, the instructions detailed that an autofocus attachment was supposed to be included in the contents. I found that weird because, obviously there was no such piece included. I found the balancing instructions unhelpful, but found an Ikan video online that assisted me. Upon getting everything balanced properly I turned it on, and thats when the real issues started. I was balancing a Canon 80D with a 50mm 1.4 lens, well under that weight capacity, yet the unit shook violently as soon as it was on. It didn't stop there, after trying to move around a bit, it begin to spin in circles on its on with nothing I could do to stop it. Maybe in needed calibrating I thought, so I downloaded the app and calibrated. ( I should say the unit has a usb-c port but doesn't come with a usb-c cable, and no software updates available at this time through Ikan). After calibrating the product still had a mind of its own and literally did the exact opposite of stabilizing the camera. Needless to say I have already returned this item and will be looking into other options. The product may be good in time, but this is why I usually stay away from initial releases.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Gimbal For my personal stuff I normally shoot with Sony, which have no issues on most gimbals, however for work I use the Canon 1DX Mark II. Due to the height of the camera I couldn't find one that would balance it properly. The PIVOT actually allowed me to adjust the height so that it works perfectly with my 1DX Mark II and 16-35 f2.8 set up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Supports heavier cameras and motor does not block LCD screen I first tested this gimbal at WPPI in Vegas this year. I was very impressed. They were demonstrating it with a Sony FS-5 and it worked like a champ supporting a heavier camera. This was one of the first single-handed gimbals in its class to support larger payloads. Another BIG feature which puts this above the rest is the angled motor arm which allows you to see the LCD on your camera unobstructed. This design feature alone makes this gimbal worth it!! But there are other features to note as well. - Balancing is relatively easy once you learn the process. I have balanced a Sony a6500, an A7III and a Canon 1DX with 85mm lens with no issues. - The modes were easy to understand and use. Some of the other gimbals, the modes were confusing and didn't make much sense. - The app was easy to use for configuring the gimbal and controlling the gimbal responsiveness as well. I was shooting at a fashion event and I was able to set the gimbal down on the tripod legs (these come with it...HUGE bonus) and control the movement with swiping my finger on my iPhone screen. - As already mentioned, the angled design is huge for being able to see the LCD when using a mirrorless camera (or DSLR in LIVE view/video mode) - The support of heavier cameras is a big step forward. Truly takes this from a hobbyist level to a professional tool for filmmaking. There are a couple of things to note. This gimbal is truly made for the heavier camera setups. I had my Sony a6500 on this and felt that setup was too lightweight for the rig. I balanced a Canon 1DX with an 85 1.2 on it and it worked amazingly well. Also, the app is not as full-featured and not as intuitive as some other apps but I do believe that will change over time. Overall this is a great gimbal. It is simple and easy to use and gets the job done. I shot 3 nights of fashion events, a documentary TV project and 3 commercial spots for a client with no issues.
