USA GEAR S17 Overview

Store and protect your DSLR camera with lenses and accessories in the red S17 DSLR Camera Backpack from USA Gear. Touch-fastening, padded dividers along with eight accessory pockets provide numerous customized storage options. The top of the pack has a zippered compartment with an accessory pocket for keeping personal items and anything requiring handy access. A padded laptop compartment will accommodate an up to 15.6" notebook, tablet or other similar sized device.

On the side of the pack is a pocket for storing the base of a compact tripod and an adjustable strap for securing the tripod's midsection. Tuck-away shoulder straps allow the backpack to be worn as a pack or sling. Simply tuck-away the strap that isn't being used. The pack has a waist belt for improved stability and comfort. Included with your S17 Backpack is a useful rain cover.

Good fit, comfortable, but not great as a sling

I found this bag to be perfect for my Nikon D5100 with the 55-300mm lens attached. Ample room for 2-3 other lenses, which makes for a high functioning kit. Flash unit, batteries, cables, etc., stow easily in the top compartment. Easy access in front for 4 SD cards. Comfortable for extended wear. The build quality seems decent and definitely above expectations for the price point. My only complaint is that in sling mode, it doesn't do so well at all. It's much less comfortable to wear and when slung around for access, it's quite awkward to retrieve the camera. Loosening the straps to the point that it was easy to retrieve the camera in sling mode meant the pack hung way too low on my back to be comfortable or effective. Verdict: as a backpack, it's great. Perfect size for a DX camera and a respectable complement of glass & accessories. Comfortable, carry-on size, meaningful padding. All good. As a sling pack, it didn't perform well at all. I gave up on sling mode, even though that's actually what motivated me to buy it in the first place.
