be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 overview

  • 1Description

Built to provide immense cooling performance for overclocked systems and demanding graphics applications, the Dark Rock Pro 4 Air Cooler from be quiet! features seven 6mm copper heat pipes, a 120mm Silent Wings 3 PWM fan, and a 135mm Silent Wings PWM fan with airflow-optimized blades with speeds of 1200 / 1500 rpm, six-pole motors, and fluid-dynamic bearings. Thanks to a funnel-shaped air inlet on the front fan, it provides extremely high air pressure. If you'd like to improve the Dark Rock Pro 4's cooling efficiency, an additional 120mm fan can be added. Living up to its name, this be quiet! product generates only 12.8, 17.9, and 24.3 dBA of noise under 50, 75, and 100% loads, yet offers a cooling capacity of 250W TDP. It has a lifespan of up to 300,000 hours and can be used with select Intel and AMD sockets.

General Features

Virtually Inaudible Operation
The two Silent Wings PWM fans feature fluid-dynamic bearings, smooth six-pole motors, and airflow-optimized fan blades. The front Silent Wings 3 fan provides extremely high air pressure, thanks to a funnel-shaped air inlet in the frame. There is also a decoupled fan mounting with vibration-isolating elements on the heat sink.
Immense Cooling Power
The Dark Rock Pro 4 does not compromise in regards to silence and performance for overclocked systems and demanding graphics applications. It provides a rating of 250W TDP and helps achieve low temperatures, even during periods of peak CPU performance.
Advanced Design
The Dark Rock Pro 4 is equipped with seven 6mm copper heat pipes that help maximize heat conductance. Airflow-optimized, wave-contoured cooling fins with small dots on their surfaces increase the air circulation, and a special black coating with ceramic particles makes efficient heat transfers possible.
Double-Tower Layout
The Dark Rock Pro 4 contains two aluminum heat sinks and the cutouts provided enhance its RAM compatibility. Two fans are pre-installed and it is also possible to add another 120mm fan for improved cooling.
User-Friendly
The mounting kit for the Dark Rock 4 is completely black, matching the black design of the cooler itself. You can conveniently install the cooler on the motherboard from above, and the brushed aluminum top cover with its diamond cut finish adds a touch of style.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from awesome cooler works with g skill flare X msi x470 M7 I had concerns with the hight of my rams (g skills flare x). It fits well on my Msi board x470 M7 on top of my Ryzen am4 shipping from BH to Canada was a breeze, no brokerage fees (just take the prepay option and you re good to go. I discovered B and H lately (i am from Canada) and i believe they gonna stay for a long time one of my favorite sellers

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great, but setup wasn't good for me This is a VERY nice CPU cooler. The fans, the look, the colors, and it is quiet as advertised. I actually watched reviews of this and Noctua and Cryorig and decided on this one. It has a fan in the middle, and a fan in the front. I also think you can add a fan on the back too (can't remember). The unit comes with a special philips (star) screw driver (special in that it's a long thin shaft, and slightly magnetic which makes installation easy,). They didn't use any proprietary or hard to use screws and such. To install this, you slap on a back plate, a bracket over the CPU and then mount the cooler. You remove two small round covers on the top which you use with your special screw driver to mount the two screws to secure the cooler and cap it when you're done. The sad part was this didn't fit snug on my ASUS ROG Maximus X Code motherboard. It would twist easily with very little pressure. I emailed be quiet! about this. They had a turn around time of same-day to 24 hours. The tech that I emailed with said he checked on my claim and was able to replicate it, so he reached out to the engineers in Germany who said this was normal and ok. That was pretty cool that they went to that extreme to check on it. I appreciated that. In the end, I could not come to terms with knowing my cooler was loose like that. - PROS: - The colors - the looks - the Fans, quiet and sleek - the installation, simple for someone experienced, maybe a little intermediate for someone new, but NOT impossible or difficult in my opinion - 2 fans, fit snugly - came with a 4 pin Y adapter in case your motherboard has only one CPU Fan header. CONS: - Metal fan straps are difficult to uninstall and install (firm once installed which is good) - did not firmly fit on my motherboard/CPU. I tightened everything to the limit and worried anymore tightening, something would crack. Prior to buying this product, I conversed with the company. I had some concerns about memory clearance and the fans with my motherboard. The tech took the time to take pictures of a test install they had and sent me the pictures AND the measurements with a ruler showing me the clearance it has. With my GSkill Ripjaws V, I still had room above the chips, so it was not an issue. Some taller RAM - LIKE REALLY TALL - might have an issue, but I think low profile and standard RAM configurations would work fine. In summary - this was a beautiful CPU cooler. Be quiet! Customer service was phenomenal. I was sad that I had to return it. I actually tested it against a Zalman CNPSx 14 with two fans installed on it as well. The be quiet, even though loose, still provided 1-2* C better cooling performance and with less noise, than my Zalman. The problem here was I could not accept the looseness because my OCD wouldn't allow me to I guess. I don't have any other coolers that are loose like that and I couldn't let it go. I marked off one star for that because even though loose, it still cooled. If it had fit firmly, I'd have kept it for sure and given it five stars easily!
