MindShift Gear BackLight 18L Reviews

Excellent Camera Back Pack

I used this for a trip to Death Valley - a lot of hiking and changing conditions requiring a variety of camera equipment. This pack was ideal for holding the equipment I needed and was extremely comfortable to wear for full day and partial day hikes. Highly recommend this pack for trips focusing on out of doors.

Mindshift for life

Great quality bag. I'm able to fit my 200-600, Sony 85 1.8, zeiss 55 1.8, Sony 35mm gm 1.4, zeiss classic 25mm 2.8, a7iv body, simmod 82mm vnd, polar pro 95mm cpl and lens blower/brush all within the camera compartment along with an ifootage monopod (could easily fit a small tripod). You can't go wrong with mindshift, they focus on camera equipment over everything else and don't have any gimmicks like peak designs camera cubes, (which just sounds like a cash grab to me). Anyways it's a straight forward bag with great build quality that keeps comfort in mind. There isn't a ton of space for extras but I was able to fit a thick jacket in the back pocket without fully zipping. You could always use the separators to creat an area for non camera stuff as well. If you need more space than what I could fit then I would go with a 26l.

I like this bag. Comfortable to wear. Very much like my Thinktank StreetWalker pro, with the opening on the back of the bag, and upgrades to the zippers, straps, and interior pockets. Smaller than my Shimoda x50, but holds more gear. Fits perfectly in the rear basket on my bike. 5 stars.

Perfect Size for Me

I bought this to use occasionally when I go out for landscapes. I don't want to carry too much with me since I don't camp. This size is perfect to keep me from packing too much and getting too heavy. I have a huge tripod and it still fits on the rear. Holds my trekking poles too, so that's nice. Construction seems to be very good. I don't think the zippers will break easily. Once adjusted to your back, it is quite comfortable. Plenty of padding for short 1/2 day hikes.

I have owned the Backlight 36L for about two years and absolutely love it. I wanted something smaller for lighter weight excursions and also something small enough to fit in a kayak and the 18L is perfect for that. I am 73 inches tall and was concerned that the 18L might be too small to fit comfortably but in fact it does fit fine. I am able to fit a Canon R5 C with a battery grip, SmallRig cage, RF 24-70 mm and Sigma 70-200 F2.8 Sport lens plus various accessories. Overall a fantastic backpack.

This is it!!

I have absolutely nothing but praise for this backpack. I've tried everything but nothing seemed to accommodate my gear at my activity level, or allowed for anything else. This is brilliant - the design, construction, layout, capacity, weight... I LOVE IT. I can carry my mirrorless Canon EOS-R and five lenses, plus all of my infrared drop-in and on-lens filters effortlessly. I can carry a tripod and a water bottle, everything is really well protected yet easy to access.

I purchased this bag to lug around my full-frame DSLR and a handful of lenses. I can strap a large tripod to the side and still have enough space for cleaning wipes, chargers, memory cards, and lens caps stuffed in the other available pockets and slots. I am really looking forward to my summer in and around Yellowstone this year.

Go with the 26l. I have both. You can just get your gear in the 18, but no room for any additional. The 26 will pack much more comfortably. You hardly notice the size difference when on your back.

If those lenses are all you're carrying then the 18L will be okay but kind of tight.. However if you want to comfortably fit the lenses you have plus any accessories or other things. The 26L will be the better choice.
