Prompter People Flex Plus Overview

The Prompter People Flex Plus 17" Teleprompter features a 17" 400 cd/m² reversing monitor, 60/40 beamsplitter glass, and a 20' reading range. The teleprompter supports nearly any camcorder, ranging from MiniDV to ENG. The teleprompter comes with an aluminum extrusion frame, which enables mounting the camera to the prompter without requiring counterweights. The 60/40 glass and hood can be folded down for transport and storage. You can mount the camera to the prompter and mount that setup to your tripod in a traditional manner, or with an optional FreeStanding kit you can mount your camera to your tripod and separately mount the prompter to a stand in front of your camera.

Flip-Q Pro software, with a dual screen scrolling engine, reverses the secondary PC or Mac laptop output without reversing the operator's display. This enables the use of less expensive non-reversing VGA displays without sacrificing the functionality or performance. It features an RTF text editor, and allows you to import RTF and TXT files. Additionally, Flip-Q Pro software offers color background, color fonts, preset font size, color, style, black and white fonts, user selectable cue points, run lists, run from selected cursor and selectable cue marker. The software comes on a USB dongle so that it can be used on multiple computers. Just plug the dongle into the computer you want to use at a given time.

The 60/40 beamsplitter glass provides a bright overlay of text that your talent can read from up to 20' away, yet the text is invisible to your camera.
Supports nearly any camera ranging from MiniDV to DSLR, and ENG cameras.
Aluminum extrusion frame - provides counterweight-free balance when used with any camera size.
Can be easily folded for secure transport and storage.
Top side camera adjustment - allows you to adjust the position of the camera vertically.
Supports HDMI, VGA, and composite inputs.
Monitor is self-reversing.
Traditional or freestanding mounting is possible. Freestanding mounting is when the glass, hood, and monitor can be mounted on a stand in front of the camera instead of mounting the camera to the prompter and then mounting the entire set up on a tripod. An optional 15mm rod kit and Freestanding kit is required.

Great Product, didn't last

I used this prompter for 3 years, and when it worked it was great. There were often power issues, however, requiring a lot of fidgeting to turn it on. Eventually I had to replace the cord, which stopped working. This fixed it for another year, until today it just stopped working. I tried for two hours to maneuver it every which way but it won't turn on anymore. I would have liked this to last a little longer, given the the price.

Not all impressed with Prompter People. While their glass and monitor work ok they have some of the worst software in the prompter market. It's clunky at best. Also it crapped out mid shoot, sending crew scrambling. Thats not an isolated incident as we've had several issues over the past year. We've contacted the company and response was luke warm. I won't be buying any of their products and recommend save yourself the frustration.

The logo is EVERYWHERE in big print

Great, except their logo is everywhere and in big print LIKE THIS. It is: * On the upper piece: on both sides of the housing * On the back side of the hood for the camera * In big print on the LCD screen, and this is reflected at you in the mirror when you are trying to read Some level of logo is normal but this is extreme, and makes the equipment feel unprofessional.

I've been using teleprompters as a key component of my shoots for the last 4 years, and have relied on my ikan hdmi monitor style prompter ever since. The issue with that one is it relies on these tiny machine screws to keep the whole thing together, so there are a lot of weak spots where I've had to retap and re-screw to prevent it from crumbling. This PP branded prompter is a great replacement. All the same features of the computer-to-hdmi-to-monitor style control, but with one hinge that has a safety stop and minimal threaded weak points. Also I'm loving the 15 size and enhanced font!

I wanted recommend this company and their products, to anyone in the market for a reliable prompting system. My company owns three Prompter People systems, a Q-Pro, a Flex Plus, and a set of presidential paddles. Our Q-Pro has been in service since 2007 and we are still using the original monitor. We have never unboxed the backup. The 17 Q-Pro has been all over the world. It is super simple to setup, and can be run in the field from a portable battery pack, all day. Our clients are very demanding and we don't have time to deal with temperamental equipment or software, which is why I recommend this company and their products so highly. The reason I am leaving this review, is that I recently ordered a Flip-Q software dongle to replace one that came apart after 15 years of use. (Ironically, the software still worked, the USB drive just plugged in without its external case.) They immediately sent me a downloadable software license to use while the dongle was in transit and we never had an issue. Everything is well made. We have NEVER had an issue or failure with electronics, or component parts. I rarely leave reviews, but when a company goes above and beyond from a service standpoint, and has a great product (multiple great products), I want to make sure other know about it.

Depending on which model of PTZ camera we're referring to... Of course, mounting the PTZ adequately on the prompter would take some very precise and careful rigging.

You will not be able to daisy chain from one Teleprompter to another. However, you can most certainly get a VGA Distribution Amp. Here is a Kramer product that has 1 VGA input that splits off to 2 VGA outputs. This would be the best way to have 2 Teleprompters showing the same images.https://bhpho.to/2I50Wi6

How is the brightness of the 400 nit version? Is ...

How is the brightness of the 400 nit version? Is it legible outside in sun? Are you happy you bought the 1000 nit, if you did so?

Your use-case/scenario will usually dictate if 400 nits are enough, but generally speaking 400 nits isn't that bright. As a test, if you have a newer smartphone, those typically go up to approximately 700~900 nits. If you are satisfied with its brightness at around 50%, you might be able to get away with the 400 nit model.

All languages are supported as long as the customer has the UNICODE for that language and plugs it into the Flip-Q Pro Software..
