Savage 24-86 overview

  • 1Description

Photograph people and products against a smooth, uncluttered background with this 86" x 36' roll of #24 Orange Widetone Seamless Background Paper from Savage. To facilitate even lighting, the surface of the paper is non-reflective and has a fine-tooth finish. In addition to photography, the paper may be used for events, decorations, banners, and more.

The paper density is 100 pounds, or 145 gsm, an easy-to-handle resilient thickness of 7.6 mil, and comes wound on a core with a 2.125" interior diameter. A plastic sleeve protects the roll in transit and can be saved to provide continued protection when the paper is not in use. The paper should be stored vertically to reduce the possibility of warping and other damage. Photographers often use clamps to secure the paper to a backdrop stand as well as tape to secure the paper to the floor if rolled out for full-body shots. The paper is acid-free and 100% recyclable.

Due to the manufacturing process, it's not uncommon for sizes to fluctuate slightly. In most cases the amount of fluctuation won't matter.

Savage 24-86 reviews

Widetone Seamless Background Paper (#24 Orange, 86" x 36') is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 67.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Color A lot of people on the photography forums have recommended Thunder Gray as a neutral background for use with gelled flashes, but that color did not come in the 86 width, so I went with this one, and I am thoroughly happy. With a single manual gelled flash directed to the background, I can easily have any color background I desire. With no gel it is easy to blowout the background to complete white. With a grided softbox on the model to avoid spillover, the background will go very dark. As to the width, it will easily handle 2 people. I hope it will handle three... I'll know for certain next week when I photograph a family of three.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have and I will always love this paper Omg the creamy white smooth finish, caresses the light poles ever so gently to the point where it is pure unicorn-fairy magic when rolled down to place my mediocre subjects in front of this paper. This paper is so divine that sometimes I just sit and stare at it and wish that my camera could actually focus on it! Its so beautiful and seamless that the camera knows it cannot display its malevolence properly so it does not attempt to take its picture without a lowly subject in front of it. Savage has done it again. If only this paper was a person. :( *Sad-face*

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A little yellow tone to #70 Storm Gray Overall a decent backdrop, but I like fashion gray better. Unfortunately, they didn't have Fashion Gray in the size I needed. There's a little too much of a yellow undertone for me - next time I'll get something different.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Like the new size What can I say, it was seamless, it was blue. I did like the new size if you can get away with the shorter roll because its a bit easier to transport on location

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The size is perfect. I purchased this back drop for use in a photo booth setup. With proper lighting and separation from the subject it's perfect. This size is the perfect balance between fitting large groups in the booth and being able to transport it in a car easily. If the subject gets too close to the backdrop it tends to photograph slightly warm. Shooting in RAW the white balance can be adjusted later. I have not tried setting a custom white balance. I'm sure that would work just fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Yep, it's white alright. Wow. Very papery. So much white.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Versatile Background I like a middle gray background because of its versatility and ruggedness. And, this Savage Fashion Gray fits the bill. It's a very nice neutral gray which is probably why it's a fashion background. With lighting control, it can easily be made any shade from white to black. With color gels, it can be made into most hues with nice density. Uses range from fashion and glamour to art nudes to portraits. Also, it will last if you take care of it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cheap enough to be disposable, rugged enough for reuse I bought a roll for a shoot across the country, where I needed to cover about 8' on 2 adjacent walls. Ordering from B&H i was able to have the roll ready when I arrived, and it went up easily with gaffer tape so I didn't need to bring any kind of stand. it wasn't worth dealing with a shipper to send it home, so I reluctantly tossed the roll when we were done but I would gladly use it again and again if I had a roll at home (I use a Matthews screen at home). I did get some funky light variations that I didn't notice while shooting, but they keyed out easily in FCP X. The bigger issue is that the roll comes in a big cardboard box with no additional protection. Mine had a small hole punched in one side of the box so there was a tear in the screen every few inches. if that had occurred near the middle instead of near the end of the screen, it could have been a huge headache.
