Ice 67mm Circular Polarizer Filter
Key Features
  • Circular Polarizer Filter
  • 2x Filter Factor, +1 Stop
  • Helps to Eliminate Reflections and Glare
  • Reduces Haze in Landscapes
The Ice 67mm Circular Polarizer Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges and filters this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

Ice Circular Polarizer Overview

A circular polarizer only differs from a linear polarizer in that it contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. The addition of this quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize the linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.

This filter is constructed from optical glass for clarity as well as color fidelity and features an aluminum-alloy filter ring that can be rotated in order to adjust the intensity of the polarization effect. To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface includes eight layers of anti-reflection coating. These coatings also offer greater protection to the filter substrate and helps it to stay clean for longer than with uncoated filters.

Polarizing filters arrange, and filter, directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of the light.
Clears up haze in distant landscapes and provides more saturated, vivid colors.
Strongest effect when used at a 90° angle from the sun.
Circular polarizers are ideal for use with digital cameras and autofocus lenses where a linear polarizer will often disrupt auto exposure and focus features.
2x filter factor reduces exposure by 1 stop.
Multicoated to prevent internal ghosting and reflections.
Aluminum-alloy filter ring for durability while remaining lightweight.
Filter ring can be rotated to adjust the intensity of the polarization effect.
67mm front filter threads allow for use with other filters.
Top knurling to provide a more textured grip when mounting or removing it from a lens.
Constructed from optical glass for clarity and color fidelity.
Plastic filter case for storage and transport.

Ice Circular Polarizer Reviews

Seems Fine

I received this and it appears to be as advertised. Fits my aftermarket cokin-compatible frame and appears to polarize. I haven't used it in a real world test yet. For the price, I think I will be satisfied

Workable for a modest priced filter

Upon receiving this filter I immediately headed to a photo shoot in a residence with very complicated color issues. The client was the interior designer, so color correctness was critical. The woodwork was painted a lovely medium cream color, but there were many other custom colors in wall papers, and draperies and upholstery. To make matters more complicated one room had a reflective gilded ceiling with lots of highlights. This filter served adequately in that it was able to correct some, but not all of the highlight reflections from the semi-gloss paint on the woodwork to the gilded ceiling. But I couldn't help feel that the response to the varied colors of ambient light was not as predictable as I'd like. Admittedly the ambient light was a big challenge, with ceiling lights with cool white LEDs, table lamps with incandescent bulbs, and outdoor light streaming in through the windows that was largely reflected off the leaves of large trees and plants making for a difficult to control greenish cast. I did use a calibration grey card and was able to pull it off with lots of post processing, but I wonder from reviews of other, more expensive polarizers if another product might have handled this situation with less complication.

question

Is this a circular polarizer? Are there any pics of it?
Asked by: Chris S.
Yes, it is a circular polarizer. The first photo, is a direct photo of the filter.
