Samson Universal Rack Drawer Reviews
1U Drawers Have Poor Quality Slides
The slides of the 1U drawers are of poor quality. They do not extend/retract easily or smoothly, causing the drawers to get hung-up as you open and close them. I purchased two 1U drawers and one of the drawers does not close all the way without applying excessive force. If I had purchased one, I may have thought that I received a fluke, but the fact that both drawers don't slide easily leads me to believe it's just a lesser-quality product. Samson product literature says that their 1U drawers use standard slides, so maybe their larger RU drawers don't have this issue, but it was bad enough for me to return them and get 1U drawers from a different manufacturer (which I've received and are great). I will say that the product's packaging is very nice. Each corner of the drawer is encased in styrofoam, making it float in the middle of the package so that dents/dings during shipment seem unlikely. Other quick thoughts: the sheet metal seems sturdy, so I'm satisfied with that. The black finish seems nice. The drawers come locked, so you have to open the keys in order to initially open the drawers (slightly annoying). I don't intend to use the locks, so I wish they weren't initially installed and instead left the knock-out in the metal intact (just my preference). They don't come with mounting screws/washers (which I'm indifferent about). Everything else about them seem good/fine - but I think the slides are quite bad and it's very important to me that a drawer opens and closes without frustration, so I feel that 2/5 stars would be my rating.
