The Convertible Drop Stand and Boom Arm from Savage is a versatile support that allows you to use it as a light stand or a boom arm. The stand's essential benefit is in its auto-extending and collapsing legs with air cushioning that allows for quick and easy repositioning of light fixtures when moving between groups and in tight spaces. Simply place the stand on the ground to extend its legs for use, and lift the stand up to retract them automatically for placement elsewhere.
The four-section stand rises to a maximum height of 12' and has two air-cushioned sections that gently lower valuable equipment when making height adjustments. The stand has a stable 32" footprint, folds down to 47", and handles a maximum of 10 lb. The cleverly designed Convertible Drop Stand has another valuable feature—a boom arm. The arm has a maximum length of 60" and a minimum usable length of 8". It will support up to 5 lb. Savage has provided an empty sandbag for a counterweight that you can fill with heavy material of your choosing. A carrying case is also included for storage and transport.

Savage Convertible Drop Stand Reviews
really good boom stand
This is a very sturdy and useful boom stand. I've used it for about a year with no issues. People are complaining that the legs collapse when you move the stand. That's how it's supposed to work, and it's a great feature. They do that so that if you're moving the boom in tight spaces...the legs collapse so that you can move in tight areas. It's a great feature. If the legs didn't collapse, it would make it hard to move around. If you move it, once you find your new spot, all you have to do is push the stand to the ground, and the legs pop right back out to support the stand.
One little problem
Works, but the stand at the bottom will not stay locked and its like a c stand or any other stand. For example, if you tighten the legs at its widest position, if you pick up the stand it will always collapse no matter what. I exchanged it for this very reason and when I got another one it has the exact same defect, so I'm thinking that they are all like this. Wouldn't recommend it. Makes moving it very problematic if it always collapses.
