Apple iPad Overview

  • 1Description

Now with Apple Pencil support, the gold Apple 9.7" iPad allows you to take full advantage of the multi-touch Retina Display. Draw pictures, jot down notes, and sign documents with the Apple Pencil (sold separately). The iPad also has an A10 Fusion chip, which is powerful enough to run augmented reality (AR) apps. Combined with enhanced cameras and advanced sensors, including a gyroscope and accelerator for accurate motion tracking, the iPad delivers an immersive AR experience.

The iPad features a 9.7" Retina Display that has a 2048 x 1536 resolution, resulting in 264 ppi - over 3.1 million pixels. The display also has multi-touch support.

At just one pound and 7.5mm thin, the iPad features an aluminum unibody construction that delivers a solid feel. There is also a front 1.2MP FaceTime HD camera and a rear 8MP camera that can record 1080p video.

With support for 802.11ac Wi-Fi, the iPad supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands.

This iPad comes preloaded with iOS. Please check your device settings for the latest available update.

A10 Fusion Chip
This iPad features an A10 Fusion chip, which has 64-bit architecture, four cores, and over 3.3 billion transistors. The A10 Fusion chip allows you to edit a 4K video, play graphics-intensive games, or experience augmented reality (AR) apps.
AR Apps
Augmented Reality (AR) brings virtual objects into the real world. With the iPad, you'll be able to use the Retina display, A10 Fusion chip, cameras, and motion sensors to take advantage of AR apps. AR apps fundamentally change what you're capable of. Learn something new whether you're inside or outside the classroom. Solve everyday problems. Immerse yourself in entertainment and games.
Apple Pencil Support
Now with Apple Pencil support, you'll be able to write notes, paint a watercolor, or sign a lease, all on the iPad. With the optional Apple Pencil, you'll have the precision and responsiveness of a stylus as well as the natural feel of a pencil.
9.7" Retina Display
Within the 9.7" LED-backlit touchscreen, the 2048 x 1536 native resolution renders text and images at 264 pixels per inch and a total of over 3.1 million pixels. The display also features an oleophobic coating, which helps reduce the amount of fingerprint smudges.
8-Megapixel Rear Camera
The f/2.4 rear camera has an 8-megapixel sensor that captures images at a native resolution of 3264 x 2448 and 1080p HD video. The camera also features time-lapse video, exposure control, 120 fps slo-mo, a burst mode, a timer mode, and a high-resolution panorama mode.
FaceTime HD Camera
Put a face - or two - on every conversation. The 1.2-megapixel front-facing FaceTime HD camera can record 720p video and has an f/2.2 aperture that lets in more light. Its sensor and pixels help improve performance in low-light conditions, while dual microphones employ noise-reduction technology to help suppress background noise. In addition, when you switch cameras from front to back (or vice versa), the microphones switch too, so what your iPad sees is what it hears.
Touch ID
Use your unique fingerprint as a password. Touch ID lets you unlock your iPad instantly and secure private data in apps. You can also use it to make purchases with Apple Pay in apps and websites.
802.11ac Wi-Fi
Thanks to two 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz antennas and MIMO (multiple-input multiple-output) technology, the iPad can reach download speeds of up to 866 Mb/s with its 802.11ac connection. So now when you want to download a movie, share photos or documents with AirDrop, or just browse the web, your connection is even faster than before.
Durable & Portable
At just one pound and 7.5mm thin, the iPad is designed to go wherever you go. And it's as durable as it is portable, with an aluminum unibody construction that delivers a solid feel.
Handoff
The iPad works seamlessly with your other Apple devices with Handoff. Start an email on your iPhone and finish it on the iPad. Or, copy images, video, and text from your iPad, then paste to your nearby Mac. You can even use AirDrop to share files wirelessly and instantly between devices.

    Apple iPad Reviews

    9.7" iPad (Early 2018, 128GB, Wi-Fi Only, Gold) is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 111.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well Pleased With the Apple 9.7 iPad, Early 2018 mdl, 128GB My wife bought this iPad for me for Christmas 2018 because my old 9.7 inch Gen 2 iPad, 16GB, was having some functionality issue since Apple was no longer supporting the old Gen 2 iPads with updates.  I wanted this particular iPad b/c I didnt want her to pay more than $400 for a new one, yet I wanted one that had lots of storage space so it would last me for several years, so the 128GB size was ideal for my immediate and future needs.  B&H had them on sale at the best price I could find on the Internet so I knew it was time for me to ask my sweetheart for this Christmas present.  BTW, it works GREAT and Im very pleased with its performance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Runs Well Setup Easy This replaced an approx 4 year old 128 GB iPad Air I bought on its introduction date. It still worked OK but is was getting slow and I didn’t trust the battery. This new one’s specifications are far higher for half the price. Set up: you centered the new Pad’s ID patch in the center of the screen through the camera of the old one (sort of a fuzzy blue patch), entered your password, and the prompting, downloading and settings were almost automatic. Could not have been easier. New machine, all files, display, settings: a “clone” of the old machine. New machine definitely faster processor than the four year old iPad Air (which I mailed to Apple Renew for a gift card). Apple is a remarkable company.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reliable, Capable and Quick My fourth successive iPad. It replaced a 4 1/2 year old iPad Air 1, also with 128 GB.? This one, with better specs, cost half what its predecessor did. The prior three iPads were trouble free, although number three was getting a little battery-challenged (I suspected) and had gotten a little slower (definitely). The predecessor also may have had file partition corruption, which a full restore corrected (old movie rentals on the memory that were invisible and inaccessible).? Back to the new one. I'm now on the internet in less than 25 seconds from cold start. It works really fast and copes with a lot of stuff at once. It interfaced with the previous machine's peripherals (keyboard, printer, folio) perfectly from day one. The new iPad's built-in setup was easy, forming a clone of the predecessor's settings. Also, I used Apple's Renew service, mailing the predecessor iPad Air 1 into Brightstar, which process went off without a hiccup. (BTW, When I replaced my 15 inch MacBook Pro three months ago, I also mailed that in on Apple's Renew as well, and that worked perfectly as well.) In short, this Generation Six iPad is a great product from a great company sold by a great online retailer. I expect I won't need the 2 year warranty Apple Warranty I bought, but one never knows (I did have a claim years ago on earlier Apple MacBook). In short, I really like it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A+ Does What I Need I needed a replacement for a Kindle Fire. The hardware is OK, but the battery died. Too much hassled to unglue the cover and attempt a battery change. Needed BOTH Internet and Reader in the same tablet. This 2018 model has the latest processor and operating system. It is FAR faster than our old iPad, and has better graphics. This new 2018 model runs the Amazon app flawlessly. This lets us use our extensive library of Kindle eBooks, just like the Kindle. It saves bookmarks, flips the pages, and so forth. Be sure to get the large 128gb storage, because you cannot upgrade. It will come in handy. It is the usual overpriced Apple product, but it does what I need it to do.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A marvelous deal Apple isn't known for offering good deals, but occasionally it does, typically when that product targets either the overseas market (the iPhone SE) or the school market (this 2018 iPad). I bought this one from B&H last week and am delighted with it. I put it in Zagg's Rugged Folio, so I now have both an iPad and a laptop at a fraction of the price I might have paid for both. Using it, I've also realized the silliness of Apple's failure to add a touch screen to its laptops. I've never liked the touch pad on laptops. I find it clumsy. With this iPad-as-laptop, I've discovered that a touch screen is much better, and that's just with my fingers. It should get even better when I find a 'good enough' deal on Apple's overpriced Apple Pencil. I can only hope that, as Pencil support spreads to other iPads and to iPhones, more apps will support its features. Users touch screen for various purposes. It'd be great if one way of touching would simply select while another way would start a drag along selection. In closing, I'll echo what others have said. Don't get the 32GB model. Future-proof your purchase by getting the one with 128GB. You can add that Apple Pen later. Once purchased, you can't add more storage.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Meeting my expectations I am familiar with the apple environment and was looking to replace my "old" iPad with a more powerful one. I will not use the Apple pencil which I find expensive and useless. But the logitech keyboard case is fine and I bought it on my return to France having to use an Azerty (French) keyboard. It is disappointing that B&H can't provide this kind of product on the spot considering the number of French customers /tourists in NYC.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Highly Addictive Their day is coming. Plugging it into your keyboard and upping what it can do, that's the future. Whether you plug it into a Casio keyboard or a 3D Printer. If you had the right code you could upload how your car is feeling today and why. It's something all the pad builders havn't figured out - all the ways pads might be used to come. RIP laptops. The pad ruleth. Stunning camera for the dull moments at work btw.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great buy! A few years ago, I purchased an iPad Air 2 from B&H. It was a great machine for the best price I could find in the internet.  This summer, the glass of the iPad  Air 2 shattered in my carryon bag.  The protective case simply failed.   I decided to purchase a replacement iPad during the Black Friday sales and conducted an exhaustive search.  Once again, B&H had the best sale price for the 128gb iPad. I loved my last iPad and this one is a 5-star item, too.  I’ve put the new one an Otterbox Defender, as I’m not taking any chances with this baby.
