Built for gaming and created with a Max-Q design, the aluminum black 15.6" Aero 15X v8-BK4 Notebook from Gigabyte is equipped with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 graphics card with 8GB of GDDR5 RAM, a 15.6" IPS anti-glare display with a Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution, a 144 Hz refresh rate, and support for NVIDIA Optimus technology. The core of this system is driven by a 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7-8750H processor, which can be overclocked up to 4.1 GHz, plus 16GB of 2666 MHz DDR4 RAM. Storage is provided by a 512GB PCIe M.2 SSD.

If you want to add external storage, optical drives, memory card readers, and more, the 15X v8-BK4 offers one 40 Gb/s Thunderbolt 3 port that also supports 10 Gb/s USB 3.1 Type-C and DisplayPort 1.2, plus one 10 Gb/s USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-A port and two 5 Gb/s USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports. You'll also be able to output video to an external display HDMI 2.0 and mini DisplayPort 1.4 ports.

Gigabit Ethernet and 802.11ac dual-band Wi-Fi are built-in for wired and wireless networking, and Bluetooth 4.2 LE technology will also allow you to connect additional compatible peripherals. Content from memory cards may be accessed via a built-in SD card reader that supports UHS-II flash media. Other integrated features include a 720p webcam, an internal mic, dual 2W speakers with Dolby Atmos audio, and a Gigabyte Fusion per Key RGB keyboard.

Gigabyte's Aero 15X v8-BK4 operates using a 94.24Wh lithium-ion polymer battery and includes a 180W AC adapter. The installed operating system is Windows 10 Home (64-bit) and protection is provided by a limited 2-year global warranty.

General Features

Thunderbolt 3
Thunderbolt 3 is a hardware interface that utilizes the reversible USB Type-C connector. Doubling the speed of its predecessor, Thunderbolt 3 features a maximum throughput of 40 Gb/s when used with compatible devices. The connector also transmits data via USB 3.1 at up to 10 Gb/s, and dual-bandwidth DisplayPort 1.2 allows you to connect up to two 4K displays simultaneously. Additionally, you can daisy chain up to six devices from a single Thunderbolt 3 port.
144 Hz Display
A 144 Hz refresh rate helps to eliminate stuttering and jitters, so you'll be able to enjoy smooth gameplay and react instantly to your game.
NVIDIA Optimus
NVIDIA Optimus is a computer GPU switching technology which, depending on the resource load generated by client software applications, will seamlessly switch between integrated and dedicated graphics adapters within a computer system in order to provide either maximum performance or minimum power draw from the system's graphics rendering hardware.
NVIDIA Max-Q Design
Thanks to NVIDIA's Max-Q design, GeForce GTX GPUs can be installed in laptops as thin as 0.7". It's all made possible by Max-Q, an innovative approach to designing thin, fast, and quiet gaming laptops. Everything is engineered for the thin gaming laptop experience, including the laptop, chip, drivers, thermal and electrical components, and more.
Dual M.2 2280 Slots
The Aero 15X v8-BK4 has two M.2 2280 slots, one of which supports PCIe and SATA SSDs, while the other only supports PCIe SSDs.
Up to 32GB RAM
Two DDR4 slots support 32GB of 2666 MHz RAM, or 16GB per slot.

Windows 10

Start Menu
After its hiatus in Windows 8, the Start Menu has returned. Utilizing a combination of the traditional menu system and Windows 8's Live Tiles, the improved Start Menu gives you more information at a glance, showing notification information alongside your applications and other pinned items.
Microsoft's digital personal assistant, Cortana, can answer your questions with information gleaned from both your device and the Internet at large. You can type or even talk with her, if your system has a microphone. Using her Notebook, Cortana keeps track of your needs and wants, and she learns over time to improve her information-gathering skills.
Microsoft Edge
After nearly 20 years, Microsoft has finally replaced its Internet Explorer web browser. With Microsoft Edge, users can write directly on web pages and share notes with friends and colleagues. It also improves the online reading experience by adding a distraction-free mode and read-it-later functionality. Edge also has built-in Cortana integration; you can have her help you find a restaurant, make a reservation, and pull up directions without leaving your browser.
Windows Store
For Windows 10, Microsoft has unified the Windows Store. Now, apps for PCs, tablets, and phones will all be accessible from one place. And with support for Universal Apps, one version of an app can work across all your compatible devices automatically.
Windows Continuum
Windows 10 was designed for a variety of screen sizes and input styles, and with its Continuum feature, it automatically adapts to fit your needs. A Windows 10 tablet on its own requires a touch-centric approach, but attaching a mouse and keyboard will shift everything to a more traditional interface. You can even attach an external monitor to your Windows 10 phone for a near-desktop experience. But it's not just the operating system; Windows Universal Apps take advantage of Continuum as well.
Xbox on Windows 10
Gaming is a big focus of Windows 10. Xbox integration allows for PC players to match up against Xbox One players on supported games, and if you have an Xbox One, you can even stream compatible titles to your PC. Native support for recording with the new Game DVR feature makes it easy to capture and share your gameplay. The new DirectX12 takes better advantage of multi-core processors, giving games a performance boost, even on older hardware. Windows 10 also features native support for virtual reality headsets, such as the Oculus Rift.

    Gigabyte Aero 15X reviews

    15.6" Aero 15X v8-BK4 Notebook is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 21.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from This thing is a BEAST! Been using it for a week consistently and I can say that this thing is a beast. I installed a second 16 GB RAM stick and a 970 EVO SSD and it's running like a champ. If you decide to do a clean install of Windows I do recommend installing the Smart Manager software in order to get good battery life. The laptop runs very quiet while using it for light activities/web browsing, it stays around 50 C though. I would recommend this laptop to anyone who is looking for a desktop replacement without all the bulk and bad looks of other gaming laptops/workstations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Monsterbyte The laptops surpassed my expectations. Great performance, battery lasts about 7 hours under continues work with battery-saving mode. While charging does heat up a little and is kinda uncomfortable. The upper keys on the keyboard have to be pressed harder for some reason. The trackpad is ok, the surface feels good but the tracking is not the best. Screen is beautiful, at that size 4K is unnecessary in my opinion. The CHARGER is awfully heavy, feels almost as heavy as the Laptop, keep this in mind if you want to travel with it. I have the feeling this will be my laptop-buddy for a long time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent All Round Powerhouse I use this for Video editing, 3D design, gaming, watching movies, travel and it's stood the test. Sturdy, light, thin I travel with it everywhere. The battery gets me through a day of productivity. Looks great with carbon fibre highlights and aluminium body. The keyboard feels great and is a perfect size for typing and gaming. There's so many ports. So many. The screen is gorgeous and bright, beautiful colour. The cooling is great not getting higher than expected 70-80 under load. It also charges soooooper fast. I would recommend this to anyone, beats the new Macbook Pro by a mile. Oh yeah you can upgrade storage and RAM with just a couple of screws. Pros - Incredible battery life, huge clock speeds, beautiful matt screen, lovely keyboard, great design (I don't like the over the top gaming laptops), tons of IO, super light and small, awesome built quality. Cons - None.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great laptop with a few annoying issues This laptop is great is almost every way. It is thin, light, and perfect for portability. It is very powerful, and the thermals are better than expected. However, it is not without flaws. The touchpad is difficult to use, being small. The ELAN drivers also give it three zones, which have no physical or soft denotation on where they start. My largest issue with this laptop though is the keyboard. Sometimes, keys to not register a quick press. The "R" key on my hardware can take up to 30 seconds to start to register a press. I am guessing this is a driver issue though, which should hopefully be fixed in the future. Overall, this laptop is great, and recommended to anyone who needs portable power.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing gaming laptop with a serious business looking I'm a very active gamer but the trend for designing gaming laptop isn't quite my thing. Usually, gaming Laptop features a bulky body, some very eye-attracting LGB lighting, a big logo with either an alien's face, a dragon, or something similar... I'd like to look more low-key and Gigabyte Aero 15X does exactly that. However the laptop doesn't stop its productivity feature at a looking level. This laptop has a huge battery even for gaming laptop, lasting around 6 hours on casual using, making it a perfect laptop for dealing with business on-the-go. The screen is bright and color-accurate, but also superfast to satisfy gamers' need. Computing power-wise, this machine is a beast, 8th Gen Intel Core i7 is a serious step forward.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Overall Gaming/Content Creator Laptop Great overall laptop, I use it as my daily driver for work and also gaming. Every game that I have thrown at it has been able to play with no issues. I mainly play Destiny 2 and purchased the 1080 144hz refresh rate model. The game looks amazing in Ultra settings, not only because of the refresh rate but also because of the beautiful panel attached to this laptop. This is one of the newer MaxQ slim designed laptops out there that has an Ethernet port, SD card reader and 2x slots for NVMe SSD storage. You will not be disappointed in this laptop at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic gaming machine I travel fairly frequently, so a lighter laptop was a must for me. Every time I use this laptop I am impressed at how much power Gigabyte crammed into such a thin and light package. At just over 4.5lbs, this laptop is incredibly easy to take anywhere. So far, it hasn't gotten any hotter than what I'd describe as a bit warm, even playing video games. I started up Rise of the Tomb Raider and after an hour on high graphics the laptop managed to keep itself pretty cool. Very impressed with its heat dissipation capabilities. My screen is flawless, and I'm loving the 144hz refresh rate. It makes everything much smoother, but I do wish it had G-Sync. Battery life is incredible as well, lasting at least 8 hours without gaming, and I would expect closer to 3-4 while gaming. I would highly recommend this machine, it has all the power you could need on the go.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I read a ton of laptops before buying this, not disappointed Pros: - Screen is great, bright and fast refresh, great color - Keyboard lights are better than expected and have a lot of options - Keyboard actually feels really great to type on - one of the better touch pads I have used - insanely powerful - crazy small for the size of the screen Cons: - fans are loud when doing a lot of intense stuff. No louder than other gaming laptops, but louder than ultra low power ultrabooks - needed a ton of updates when I first got it. Their update software makes you do 1 at a time. Far inferior to Asus's manager - The right shift key light is really weak, like almost no light out of it. - Webcam placement is awful and it's a very low quality one Unknowns so far: - Battery is supposed to be insane. Haven't tested it yet
