Barebones System

The Intel NUC is a barebones system and does not include RAM, storage, or an operating system. Please note that you will have to install these on your own for it to function.

Multi-Display Support

This system has a total of six video ports including: two HDMI, two mini-DisplayPort, and two Thunderbolt 3 ports.

Thunderbolt 3

Thunderbolt 3 is a hardware interface that utilizes the reversible USB Type-C connector. Doubling the speed of its predecessor, Thunderbolt 3 features a maximum throughput of 40 Gb/s when used with compatible devices. The connector also transmits data via USB 3.1 at up to 10 Gb/s, and dual-bandwidth DisplayPort 1.2 allows you to connect up to two 4K displays simultaneously. Additionally, you can daisy chain up to six devices from a single Thunderbolt 3 port.

Infrared Capability

As the NUC was designed especially for home theaters, this system features a front panel infrared sensor, which allows wireless communication with infrared-compatible devices, such as remote controls, keyboards, and other devices.

Is this VR Ready?

Is this VR Ready?
Asked by: Patrick
Yes, kinda of. I have confirmed this product will work with an [Oculus Quest 128GB + Oculus Link Cable]. I evaluated it using Google Earth VR. VR is usable, but it isn’t the best experience. I am comparing it to my experience using a [RTX 2080Ti+ Oculus Quest 128GB + Oculus Link Cable]. Using the NUC, rotating flying aren’t particularly smooth. There is jerkiness. The VR Google Earth menus are warped and distorted. Warping and distortion are present even with one eye closed. The actual 3D and map details look great, but rapid and semi-rapid movements reveal flaws. I would only use this product for VR if I needed to do something quick and dirty and didn’t want to fire up my primary workstation which is ‘a process’. Additionally, the Oculus ‘Home Room’ is not pleasant at all. Using the ‘access my desktop Monitor’ feature was a mistake and my experience quickly degraded. Using VR is the only time I’ve heard fan noise from the product. Having said all that, I would not hesitate to buy this product again. It handles my dual 32” Viewsonic 4K monitors like a champ. The plethora of features easily makes up for the ‘VR advertising oversell’ snafu. I would save the intense VR stuff for a traditional full-sized computer and GPU.
