Yamaha MusicCast 20 Reviews

They're great, but all die after 3-4 years

I have 4 of these because they really do sound great and it's wonderful to have sound throughout the house without wires. But a year back, 1 of my 4 lost its ability to connect to wifi. And 3 months later, a second one did. 2 weeks ago I just lost my kitchen one. So now I'm down to one of four that can still connect to wifi. All of the speakers still work if I wire them up to ethernet, but frankly that defeats the whole purpose of wireless speakers. What happens is they will spontaneously disappear from he MusicCast app, and when you try to reconnect them, you'll get endless messages like "MusicCast setup failed, please try again" or "Unable to join the MusicCast network." I've run setup literally dozens of times on all these wifi-dead speakers. The funny part is that in true Tech Support fashion, Yamama assumes the problem is with my network, even though I have 35 other devices that are currently actively connected to it. Nice try Yamaha, how about fixing your stuff LOL

A bit tricky to set up but nice sound

Setting each up, creating stereo set and a room with phone app is not that easy and the manual is sparse. Figuring out the On/Off touch and which service to use (Pandora would stop and device powered off - losing one speaker) was the hard part. I just mute it when not in use. Keeping the great sound from being lowered was the easy part. Next I'll pair them to my new Yamaha YHT-5950US 5.1...
