Yamaha MusicCast 50 Overview

Enjoy your music wirelessly with the white Yamaha MusicCast 50 Wireless Speaker. It features Bluetooth, Apple AirPlay, Wi-Fi, and Spotify Connect technologies to connect to nearly any wireless component in your home. The speaker also has an Ethernet port for wired network connectivity. It has two 1" tweeters, two 4" woofers, and a bass reflex port to help create an immersive soundstage.

The MusicCast 50 can be controlled wirelessly with the MusicCast app, which is available for compatible Android and iOS devices. You can also pair two MusicCast 50 speakers together for stereo sound, or with other MusicCast-compatible components for music streaming throughout the house or for wireless surround sound.

Hands-Free Operation with Your Amazon Alexa-Enabled Devices
Amazon Alexa can be used to control your MusicCast products, allowing you to play music on the MusicCast 50 without lifting a finger.
Convenient Connections
The MusicCast 50 features an optical input for direct digital TV connection, plus RCA and 1/8" analog audio connections.
Designed to Provide Room-Filling Sound
The digital amplifier can deliver up to 70 watts from the two aluminum cone woofers and two horn tweeters.
Various Configuration Options with Multiple Units
Use two MusicCast 50 speakers for wireless stereo sound or add one or a pair to a MusicCast surround-capable receiver to provide wireless surround speakers in your home theater system. After a future firmware update, you'll be able to add a MusicCast SUB 100 to a pair of MusicCast 50 speakers to create a 2.1-channel system.

Connecting to my network took a little extra time but once I figured out my mistake it was smooth sailing. WiFi range is good, sounded great even in the backyard. Kind of expensive but glad I bought it.

Paired easily out of the box to my Music Cast receiver in another room. Unit was small enough to fit under the sofa and fills the room with great sound!

Can I connect a digital audio player to this Yamaha speaker with a 3.5mm cable in order to hear music from the player through the Yamaha speaker?

Yes it would be possible. It has 1 AUX plug for 3.5mm input.

I just want to make sure that I can use this in another room to hear the music that I'm playing on my disc player and running via my Yamaha Aventage RX-A870 AV Receiver. Is that correct?

That is correct. They are both MusicCast equipped, and this wireless speaker will basically be your Zone 2.

Can this be used as a single rear surround speaker in combination with wired speakers through a Yamaha receiver or do you need a left/right pair to achieve these results?

If the Yamaha receiver that you are using is MusicCast compatible then yes you will be able to use it in this way with the Yamaha MusicCast 50 WX-051 Wireless Speaker.
