Billingham Hadley Large Pro Reviews

The best bag I've ever owned

I purchased this model Billingham about 20 years ago. The bag was not purchased as a fashion accessory, but as a working bag and like any tool it has been used, but not abused. It has seen daily use for nearly two decades faithfully transporting cameras, laptops, clothing etc from the Americas, to Europe and far flung places like New Zealand. I am consistently astounded by just how much you can cram into this model. My bag is stained, worn in the corners, the leather trim has dried up and cracked and yet it just keeps going. The canvas is as waterproof as ever and the main strap is still intact. Spare parts are available from Billingham and they will even 'restore' your bag for a fee. My main complaint about Billingham bags is the amount of time and use it takes for them to not look new. They are nice looking bags and sometimes I worry about attracting thieves on travels, but that's why you keep your head on a swivel (or bring a Domke). It took about 10 years for this one to start breaking and now at age 20, she's developed a nice patina of scuffs and stains. This my second Billingham. I have an L2 Alice that I purchased in the mid 90's and it too is still going strong, despite very heavy use and surviving all sorts of adventures. I have tried many other bags on the market. Some similar in spirit, some high tech. At the end of the day none of them come close to a Billingham, with the exception of the Domke F2/F6. But those are purely camera bags and Domke is a legend in its own right. Anyhow, a Billingham may seem expensive up from, but it's money well spent. They are one of the few items you can purchase these days where you still get your money's worth and then some.

20 years later

I bought this bag at B&H NYC in approximately 2005. I have used it frequently over the years, first for camera gear and then for everyday use. For the past 10 years I have used on an everyday basis for work. It still looks great, is still waterproof and has almost no wear. After twenty years I may have to replace the front straps in the next year or so. The replacement straps cost around $20 for the pair. I will buy a Billingham binocular case to go with my latest purchase from B&H, I have complete confidence it will last the rest of my life.

question

I want to but the shoulder pad for this but can't find if the strap is 2 or 1.5 - the sp40 or sp50 shoulder pad
Asked by: Anonymous
Billingham lists these shoulder pads as compatible with the Hadley Large Pro Shoulder Bag,http://bhpho.to/1mhLj2O. And these can be used with straps no larger than 2 inches.

question

Does the leather grab handle have two buttons, or two rivets? I'm trying to figure out if you need to undo the buckles to get to your gear or if you can just unclasp the handle. Thanks!

If I'm not mistaken, this bag is a copy of The System Bag, which was the greatest bag of all time way back when.
