In addition to adding the compact portrait-length prime lens to your camera bag, the Sony FE 85mm f/1.8 Lens with UV Filter Kit from B&H also includes a versatile 67mm UV filter to help protect the lens.

  • Sony FE 85mm f/1.8 Lens

An ideal portrait-length prime, the FE 85mm f/1.8 from Sony is a sleek short-telephoto lens designed for full-frame E-mount mirrorless cameras. The bright f/1.8 maximum aperture benefits this lens's use in low-light conditions and also affords extensive control over depth of field when working with selective focus techniques. The nine elements, eight groups lens construction includes one extra-low dispersion element to minimize chromatic aberrations and color fringing for greater clarity and color accuracy. Benefitting the optical design is a simple, intuitive physical layout that incorporates a customizable focus hold button and a physical AF/MF switch. The double linear AF motor itself affords quick, quiet, and smooth focusing performance, and this motor also offers snappy manual focus performance for fine-tuned control. Finally, the lens is designed to be dust- and moisture-resistant for increased protection.

Prime portrait-length lens is designed for full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras, however can also be used on APS-C models where it will provide a 127.5mm equivalent focal length.
Bright f/1.8 maximum aperture allows for fine-tuned control over depth of field and also benefits working in difficult lighting conditions.
One extra-low dispersion element is featured in the optical design and helps to limit color fringing and chromatic aberrations for heightened image clarity and color accuracy.
Double linear autofocus motor delivers smooth, precise, and near silent focusing performance to benefit both stills and video applications.
The focus hold button on the lens barrel can be used to hold the focusing position, or can be set in-camera to control a variety of additional lens functions. Also, the lens has an AF/MF switch for tactile control over the focus mode.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality when employing selective focus techniques.
Dust- and moisture-resistant design for increased protection to the elements.

Sony 85mm f/1.8 reviews

FE 85mm f/1.8 Lens with UV Filter Kit is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Overpriced Paperweight Taking good photos is next to impossible with this lens due to the purple fringing. Even brown hair is turned purple in bright light. This is an expensive paperweight. If you use Capture One, you can isolate the purple and see everything the lens is ruining. I've tried product photography, landscapes, and portraits with this lens. I've tried apertures from 1.8 to 8.0, and there's always some level of purple fringing, and none within an acceptable range. Avoid this lens, it's not worth the headache. I gave it 2 stars instead of one because it's a sharp paperweight, whatever good that is. I guess if you're only shooting black and white this might be cool...but not for the price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A sharp, lightweight prime: awesome Perfect complement to an A7riii, making a great allaround pairing. Add a 35mm (not gonna get into choices here), plus either a 135mm on the long end or 18mm on the short end, and you will have a 2- or 3-prime combo that makes for an interesting argument / alternative to carrying zooms. No I.S., but sony’s camera stabilization helps. (UV filter was essentially ‘free’, so won’t comment on quality compared to other solutions....) Would add 1star if it was a little more rugged/weather sealed at same price....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sony FE85 f/1.8 A surprisingly good lens, especially for the price. Very happy with this purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from meets my high expectations For an A7ii I wanted a sharp quick focusing lens in this focal range that is compact and "travel friendly". My 90mm macro tends to be too large to haul around, albeit a sensationally sharp lens. The 85mm gets me close enough to this focal length and is a great performer. Sharp and fast focusing with no noticeable CA. I use the 85mm on both an A7ii and A6300. Very pleased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very sharp light weight lens Lens is just as sharp as a sigma art lens. No focusing issues at all. All photos from this light weight lens are all very nice and crisp. No need to purchase a high end g master. Only lens that stays on my a7riii. Lens was recommnded by fellow canon photog. Lens is always out of stock. Got lucky on a sale and got the filter for free. Thank you BH!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value I watched a lot of YouTube reviews of this lens and they all said the same thing. "It's almost as good as the Zeiss Batis which is twice the price". I have not had a chance to explore all of the uses for this lens, but I can say that without a doubt I am very happy with this lens and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone. Good price / great value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Lens, Great Value I agree with all the reviews for this lens. Many videos online regarding the 85mm f1.8 which demonstrate the capabilities. This a fun lens delivering awesome pics and video for a reasonable cost. I'm very happy with my choice and purchase.
