SLR Magic MicroPrime Cine 50mm T1.2 Overview

Choosing a smaller size over bulk and weight, the SLR Magic MicroPrime Cine 50mm Lens covers full-frame sensors and features a Sony E-mount. Suitable for 4K origination, each lens in the MicroPrime Cine series features similar size and weight with consistent lens gear positions for rapid lens changes and easier re-balancing when changing lenses on a gimbal.

The lens incorporates a 13-blade iris that provides a pleasing bokeh with natural-looking, out-of-focus highlights. The odd number of iris blades also reduces the appearance of flare off the blades. The lens has an internal focus design so the front of the lens doesn't rotate when focusing, and it has an 85mm outer diameter for compatibility with a wide number of clip-on matte boxes.

Each lens in the MicroPrime Cine series features similar balance characteristics, minimizing recalibration when switching lenses while your camera is on a gimbal.
Internal focus mechanism minimizes breathing and prevents the front of the lens from rotating while pulling focus
An 82mm front filter thread enables mounting filters directly to the lens without using a matte box

SLR Magic MicroPrime Cine 50mm T1.2 Reviews

Very Capable Lens

Coupled this lens with the Sony FX3 on an Edelkrone Jib One, Edelkrone Headplus v2 with Edelkrone FocusPlus Pro (yes, I love Edelkrone products!) It worked perfectly and watching the focus move in on the next subject in the pan was exactly what I was hoping for. Will purchase the 35mm version as well. As others have stated, this lens gives the image a pleasing character!

Love the look/feel of the lens. Smooth focus ring and well built. Great picture with a softer feel when at 1.2 (I like the look).

chromatic aberration

Have 2 of these 50mm's, they have objectionable chromatic aberration at wide open aperture (whole reason I wanted a T1.2 lens). It gets better when you stop down...

having a good 50mm is essential

Excellent Cine lens

After looking at many reviews and other lens I decided to go for this one. My experience so far has been a great one! The image it produces with my Sony fx6 pairs well and I’m excited to continue to shoot more with it. They had this many places, out or a higher cost I feel and B&H was the best place to purchase.

2 out of 4 SLR microprimes I bought are not functional

I left my review of the terrible experience I had with the 18mm E mount, which in essence doesn't fit my A7sii. It gets stuck and doesn't make the click sound. As for this 50mm it does fit but forcing it a little bit, which shouldn't happen at all. I have never had this issue with a lens before and this infuriates me since I come from far away to picked them up from another country and in the end I have to spend my time taking them back to b&H since they not work as they should in the very main basic thing which is to mount it on the camera.

No lens is truely perfect but it does it’s job wonderful. I know it’s designed for video but pictures that I can take for my photography is immaculate. To get a manual lens this decent at the price that it’s for is crazy. It’s way better than plenty of automatic lenses and low light availability is a plus. It’s worth a buy

Hi, how does this lens work with SLR Magic Anamorphot-50 1.33x Anamorphic Adapter?
Asked by: Danila
It does not work with Anamorphot Adapters. The front diameter is too large to work with the Anamorphot-50 or any other SLR Magic Anamorphot Adapter. Instead you need the SLR Magic Cine II 50mm f/1.1 Lens (Sony E-Mount) B&H # SL5011FE2 for the Anamorphot-50 1.33x. https://bhpho.to/2LIgTgl

Asked by: Kam
Yes it is. The SLR Magic Anamorphot-65, B&H # SLMA13365, is compatible with their Micro Prime Lenses and the 50mm offers the proper focal length for use with a Full Frame camera like the A7III. https://bhpho.to/2uz1tmG

Would any of you say this is ideal for still pictures?
Asked by: Alfonza
While you could certainly use this lens to take photos, it being a Cinema Lens means that it is not ideal in most cases. It is a fully manual lens with a design geared towards Cinematography.
