SLR Magic MicroPrime Cine 75mm T1.5 Overview

Choosing a smaller size over bulk and weight, the SLR Magic MicroPrime Cine 75mm Lens covers full-frame sensors and features a Sony E-mount. Suitable for 4K origination, each lens in the MicroPrime Cine series features similar size and weight with consistent lens gear positions for rapid lens changes and easier re-balancing when changing lenses on a gimbal.

The lens incorporates a 13-blade iris that provides a pleasing bokeh with natural-looking, out-of-focus highlights. The odd number of iris blades also reduces the appearance of flare off the blades. The lens has an internal focus design so the front of the lens doesn't rotate when focusing, and it has an 85mm outer diameter for compatibility with a wide number of clip-on matte boxes.

Each lens in the MicroPrime Cine series features similar balance characteristics, minimizing recalibration when switching lenses while your camera is on a gimbal.
Internal focus mechanism minimizes breathing and prevents the front of the lens from rotating while pulling focus
An 82mm front filter thread enables mounting filters directly to the lens without using a matte box

SLR Magic MicroPrime Cine 75mm T1.5 Reviews

Great lens !

I picked this up in a set of four SLR Magic MicroPrimes, and have not used it more than a week but so far I love its unique character. It is light-weight and easy to use on my A7SII hand-held, the focus ring is quick and works great even without follow-focus. The only thing is that when I first got this, I picked up in-person and tried it out with a Sony A7SIII in the store - and found the E-mount to be very resistant, hard to attach the lens all the way to click in. I returned it for a new one which attaches smoother but still there is more resistance than other SLR Magic MicroPrime lenses I got... I don't think this will affect the lens performance but just mentioning it.

chromatic aberration

Have 2 of these 75mm's, they have objectionable chromatic aberration at wide open aperture (whole reason I wanted a T1.5 lens). It gets better when you stop down..

A Lens with Character in a great Housing.

I have not used this lens much yet, so keep this in mind for the review. I have used the 35mm more. This lens has character over sharpness. The lens has an almost vintage look, but I knew this before buying and I'm happy with the look of it. I really enjoy the focus and iris rings, and I also like how the lens has the same dimensions as the 35mm.

Great Glass

I purchase the 18, 35 and 75 from B&H. These are great lenses. Prone to flare, but manageable. Excellent in low light. I especially enjoy the 75 on my Sony FS5. Gorgeous look.

AN AMAZING LENS!!!!

I am in love with the 1.5 t stop, the wonder skin tones, the long lens feel of the 75mm wonder. This lens leaves the blue hue of Rokino in the dust. The images are sharper and the consistency of images in the 75mm, 50mm and 35mm have been outstanding. I do have 1 complaint about the lens it needs a variable ND filter on it for most of the ext. Shots. The lens is much brighter than my zeiss, Rokinon, and Sony lenses. The low light shooting is truly stunning. Whatever quality issue others have complained about seem to be resolved. This is a Cine lens that Photographers will love and every rental house should offer. Get yours today.

Great lens with known e-mount issues

I've been shooting with the SLR Magic microprimes and genuinely appreciate the consistent color and image quality across the line. However, the 75mm currently shipping has a known problem with the e-mount on a6000 series cameras and required a replacement e-mount ring from the manufacturer. The replacement was super simple - it took 3 minutes once I remembered the orientation matters - and there are no problems with the lense after the fix.

Great cine lens for filmmakers

I shot a film with this 75mm cine lens and it looked awesome. It created a interesting cinematic look that none of my more expensive lenses could produce. I received a lot of compliments on the shots that I did using this lens. These lenses are also built like a tank unlike other still and cine lenses.

How's the Chromatic Aberration on these lenses? I plan on using them documentary style with no lighting. So I will be shooting in scenes with a high dynamic range.

question

Hi, Just want to know if its the same glass used in the SLR Magic Cine 75mm f/1.4 FE Lens for Sony E-Mount? Whats the difference between the two apart from the obvious?
Asked by: robin
The new MicroPrime Cine lenses from SLR Magic build upon the original Full Frame E-Mount lenses SLR Magic Offers. The difference is the MicroPrimes are uniform in size with things like their gear placement and front diameter, so a kit of lenses can easily be switched on to a rig. They also have a better throw distance for focus and a more robust overall design.
