The ball itself is paper and is supported by a 3/16" metal frame that's attached to the socket. Optional bulbs are separately purchased by the user. The underside of the socket is tapped with 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 female threads for ease of mounting, and the light comes with a threaded 5/8" pin for attachment to standard grip gear such as a boom.

frame is too big for lantern

The frame and fixture are well built and sturdy but the they are too big for the paper lantern. Ordered 3 and all of them are too small for the ficture that came with them. I accidentally ripped one lantern trying to put the fixture inside. Checked with a colleague and I'm not crazy, the fixture seems to be made for a bigger lantern.

Nice sturdy frame. The paper ball arrived torn and split first time out. I purchased a stack of them on-line and find they last one shoot. Really poor value for money.
