Matias FK318LB Overview

The RGB Backlit Wired Keyboard for Mac from Matias is built with scissor-switch keys and connects to your system via a USB 2.0 Type-A cable. With Mac-focused function keys, it can be used to adjust your screen brightness, volume, access iTunes, and more. Additionally, it has built-in RGB lighting to add a bit of flair to your setup as well as for typing in dimly lit environments. Using the dedicated Spectrum Color Dial, you can choose from a variety of colors to best fit your aesthetics. For your convenience, it has a single USB 2.0 Type-A port that you can use to quickly connect other devices and peripherals such as a mouse.

Spectrum Color Dial
The Spectrum Color Dial provides you with lighting control at your fingertips. From left-to-right, it passes from white, through a rainbow of colors, and back to white again.
Nightly Whites
To help reduce blue light exposure, this keyboard is designed with alternative lighting options. By turning the dial back, it reduces the blue used to produce white, which is 100% red, green, and blue, to provide you with a softer, yellow light.
Brightness Control
Adjust the backlighting brightness in 10% increments from 0 to 100%, or directly by holding down the shortcut key and then pressing a number. You can also quickly turn it off using the shortcut and Esc key.
USB Port
A built-in USB 2.0 Type-A port can be used to quickly connect other devices and peripherals such as a mouse.
Mac-Friendly Function Keys
Designed for Macs, this keyboard has dedicated Mac function keys such as screen brightness, volume, iTunes, and more. You can also momentarily change the function keys back to their original duties if needed.

This keyboard looks great but the key response iis a bit strange. I am typing with it right now ad you will see a few of the typos it generates. Sometimes it iis a missed key strike but often it is a double letter. The letter i seems to be one that this often happens with. Not every time, but often enough. It is bad enough that I just ordered another keyboard. Lookiing over these paragraphs, the iissue isn't that bad, it seems like at thiis time only one key is giving me an issue, but sometimes it is more than one key. In typing this I had some miissed letters but II went back to correct those. I can't say if it is a keyboard iissue or just me striking the keys too softly. The keys themselves require a bit more of a hard strike than what you might be used to wiith an Apple keyboard. That is not too big of a problem, but it requires a bit of time to acclimate. It does result in some missed letters.

Exactly what I was looking for - after 1 yr I still love it!

(note about the photo - that isn't wear on the keys, embarassingly it just apparently needs to be cleaned, and I'm only noticing that after taking a photo lol) I came back to this page because I lost the instructions on how to adjust the backlight color and brightness (it's super easy, I just forgot and now have it on a stickie) and figured I'd write a review because a) I know I always read reviews myself, and b) the reviews are so darn mixed for this keyboard. I'm all Apple everything but... I don't enjoy the feel and design of the Magic Keyboard. I couldn't type quickly as it just became a mass of typos. Also, where's the backlight?! I often work at night and I feel like being able to see your entire keyboard is pretty imperative. I love that the brightness on this one is easily adjustable and you can have it set to just white if you aren't feelin' a crazy color. I actually prefer corded as I seem to always have issues with Bluetooth anything really. They can just be so finicky. As my keyboard stays at my desk, it's fine. I also don't really care that it's USB 2 - I'm guessing we all have adapters and hubs, it's not major points off for me as the connection is solid. I love the Space Gray - it matches everything else I have going on tech-wise, and I REALLY appreciate zero branding on it. It looks clean, feels sturdy, has substantial keys with a good smooth click that isn't too loud - and I don't make a bunch of typos with it! The contour of the keys is just right (for me at least!). I've had this for a year now and I'm on my computer daily. I'm not writing novels but as a designer I do use certain keys a million times a day and there has been zero wear or fading on those keys. I'll agree that there's a bit of light leakage at the base of the keys but it's so slight - and since your view is down at the main set of keys used, you don't see the very slight side leakage. It doesn't bug me at all. All in all I literally have zero complaints, and I searched far and wide for a proper apple dupe before I bought this, even with the mixed reviews. I'm so happy I did!

I use the F1-19 keys as custom shortcuts -- are the Fn keys locked to Mac-focus or can they be switched to std function keys?

The Matias RGB Backlit Wired Keyboard for Mac (Space Gray) does not have an Fn lock on the keyboard, but you can change the default behavior of the function keys between Mac features and standard function keys in the MacOS System Settings menu.
