Impact 7' Improved Parabolic Umbrella (White/Black)
Key Features
  • Secure Push Button Locking Mechanism
  • White Interior
  • Black Backing
  • Durable Fiberglass Ribs
If you had to choose a single light shaping tool, you might do well to pick the Impact 7' Improved Parabolic Umbrella with a black exterior and a white interior. First of all, it's a huge broad light source that wraps light around your subject, yielding clean highlights and rich open shadows. But due to the special shape of the umbrella there's a unique mix of soft enveloping light with the kind of crisp detail you only get from reflectors. Put another way, if you combined a beauty dish with a softbox, you'd have a parabolic umbrella.

I was going to use this with the attachable diffuser for more of a soft box look. My thought was to get white to soften it even more compared to the silver (possibly still hot coming through the diffuser), however do you think I would just be wasting too much light with the white since it’s translucent with the black backing?
Asked by: Elizabeth
Hi Elizabeth, A lot of image makers use the diffuser on the umbrella with the white interior to further soften the light. It really comes down to the look you are going for.

Is this a true "parabolic" umbrella?
Asked by: Chris
Most umbrellas, like the Impact 7' Improved Parabolic Umbrella (White/Black), are parabolic style. The Broncolor Para 177 Reflector F Kit, BH #BRP177FK, is more of a parabolic umbrella (https://bhpho.to/46fYmmr).

I have not used the westcott however I feel that the build quality of this item is very good. I am sure that there are better items out there however I am very happy with this umbrella and the price was just perfect.
