Vello IR-SU Reviews

It did not work

This item did not work with my Sony alpha series camera. I tested the battery, and it was ok. I went to my local camera store, and the inexpensive selfie trigger they had (another brand) worked fine. I planned to return this item, but then I lost it somehow.

does the job but not perfect

For the price it'll work. There's a slight delay from the time you release the button to the camera triggering, unlike my cabled release which is instantaneous.

Works very well. Can also be used for bulb exposures. Press button to open shutter. You time your exposure and then press button again to close it. Much cheaper way to do long exposures. It can’t do time lapse automatically if your camera does not have that function.

Good start, but...

I purchased the IR trigger so that I could use a SONY mirrorlesss with a 60x apotting scope and eliminate as much camera shake as possible. The remote performed as expected b described and.contributed to a great experience that resulted in some fine results. The IR trigger would be much improved with two additions ons: 1). Add a neck strap. It's qnnoying to be doing several things at once while keeping track of and using the IR. 2) An on-off switch to help conserve the battery. Otherwise? Dirt cheap and a good tool,

how exactly does line of sight means? read this on an answer. If i stand in front of camera to take groups photos and i want to just hide the remote, will it not work ? Thanks
Asked by: Camila
Both the IR transmitter (at the front-end of the remote) and IR receiver (on the camera) need to be able to see each other in order for it to fire. If you want to use it and then keep it out of sight, set your camera to 2-5-10 second self-timer modes, fire it, then hide the remote in your pocket.

Will this work if you stand behind a7R II or it only works if you stand in front of the camera?
Asked by: Joel
Not directly. Its IR-sensor is located in the front of the handgrip and will not function unless it makes line-of-sight.

Is this compatible with Nikon D850?
Asked by: Gautam
No, it is not compatible with Nikon D850 cameras. The camera does not have an IR sensor therefore you can not select this option on the D850 Drive wheel. Nikon makes the following remote with an IR module that connects to the 10 pin port BH #NIML3. You can also connect your camera to your smart devices using the Nikon Snap Bridge app. It will allow you to control your camera settings, focus and shutter.

The A7IV does not have an IR-receiver and thus cannot work with IR-based triggers like this Vello IR Selfie Trigger.
