Design flaws undercut OK optics

The optics and lighting provided by this device are fine. However, the design is flawed. Despite the knurled knob on the top, it is not possible to adjust the focus. This is not a problem if your vision is OK. A bigger problem is that when the reticle is removed, which you need to do to get a more reasonable field of view, the device is no longer in focus for flats (e.g., film, prints) placed against its base. This is because the reticle acts as a shim, and the fixed focus is adjusted to incorporate the depth of this shim. Remove the reticle, and it is out of focus.
