Manfrotto MB MA-BP-BFR overview

  • 1Description

Store, protect and transport a DSLR, attached 70-200mm zoom, up to six extra lenses, related accessories, a variety of personal items, and a laptop with the attractive, black Befree Rear Access Advanced Camera and Laptop Backpack V2 from Manfrotto. Inside the front of the backpack are two padded sleeves for a laptop up to 15" and a 9.7" tablet. The removable camera case has a clear mesh zippered top and touch-fastening, padded dividers for organizing gear. For versatility, the pack may be used solely as a laptop pack or daypack. For greater security, access to your camera gear is offered through the rear of the pack.

The front zippered laptop compartment helps speed travelers through airport security checkpoints. Items you wish to keep handy, such as your sunglasses, wallet, passport and more are easily retrieved from the top zippered compartment, replete with storage pockets. Red interior lining is both stylish and useful for locating gear in low light. An interior tripod pocket is designed to hold a small Manfrotto Befree tripod. Somewhat larger tripod or water bottle storage is facilitated with an exterior pocket on the side of the pack.

A padded back panel provides cushioned comfort, improved airflow, and helps wick-away moisture. Carrying the pack is easy with the padded shoulder straps, sternum strap, waist strap and top handle. Sturdy zipper pulls may accept a small, optional padlock. Photographers can connect an optional Manfrotto PL Camera Strap to the D-rings located on the shoulder strap. This arrangement helps distribute weight more evenly and improves comfort. In the event of inclement weather, simply deploy the included rain cover.

    Manfrotto MB MA-BP-BFR reviews

Befree Rear Access Advanced Camera and Laptop Backpack V2 (Black) is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Concept is great, Execution is okay I'm on the never ending search for a backpack that can hold camera gear and personal gear while traveling. For my personal needs, I'm looking for something that can hold (aside from laptop/ipad): camera gear - Fuji camera body, at most 3 lenses, filter pouch, 1-2 extra batteries and charger, travel tripod; personal gear - rain or light down jacket, noise-cancelling headphones (for the airplane), any small purchases that may be picked up while out exploring, and maybe some snacks since I'm always hungry. With this backpack, unfortunately the personal compartment is incredibly small. If you stuff a jacket in there, nothing else will fit. For me, the camera compartment is too big. I would prefer the camera storage to be made smaller in order to get more space for personal items. If you need to take more camera gear than personal stuff, this could be a good bag for you. Alas, I'm still searching. Pros: built well (or at least seems to be built well), I love the idea of the hidden tripod storage so you don't have to hang it on the outside of the bag Cons: small space for personal storage, not a lot of other organized storage (pens, etc.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Functional, LIGHT, simple bag for medium level kit. Stylish! This bag is amazingly well designed and built. The strongest feature is its lightness. I compared lots of bags from different brands, of similar size and storage capacity on the website, and this one is the lightest I found (1.18 kg or 2.6 pounds). It is 820 grams lighter than a Lowepro Protactic 350 AW for example, and that is a big difference when you're walking with the bag fully loaded for long periods of time. The rear access makes it safe and the gear is quite easy to reach. I was worried I wasn't going to be able to reach for my camera without taking the bag off and putting it on the floor, but it is actually possible just by partly opening the camera compartment. The rear access has been useful when hiking because then your back doesn't get dirty. I bought it because I wanted a versatile bag that I could use for travel, at an urban environment such as Mexico City and feel safe when taking the subway (it doesn't look like a camera bag); but also in a hiking situation or in rural communities. I've taken the bag to do some hiking in Arizona and a pair of National Parks as well. It is very confortable to carry, the straps are good, although I think it isn't exactly built for that kind of environment. The materials feel sturdy and durable, as does the padding, but for serious outdoor and landscape photography I would use another bag. It is cabin friendly, even in those very small AA planes. The tripod pocket is a really strong feature as it conceals it and protects it a little more (I own a Befree live which is what it's designed for). The bag has a little side back pocket which is not mentioned in the specs or in the description and is very useful for small items. Two water bottles pockets! In the B&H website it said that it comes with waist straps but it doesn't, a little disappointment there as that is a feature that would make it better for all day walks. I recommend this bag if you own a medium level DSLR kit or a more professional Mirrorless kit for video. Although I believe for pro still photographers wanting to carry only one body it is an excellent choice. It is great for travel! I can fit: Camera compartment: Canon 6D with attached 24-105 f4 and hood, Samyang 50 mm T1.5 with hood, vintage Minolta 28mm, Rode Videomic PRO+ and its windbuster, Tiffen filter pouch w/4 filters, charger, caps, microfiber cloth, small rocket blower. There is still space for another lens. Rest of the bag: Befree live tripod, lacie rugged hard drive, a book and a notebook, pen and pencil, LensPen, earphones, memory cards, luxi dome attachment, snacks, passport, Ruggard rain cover, tripod base plate, charger and cables, microfiber cloth, macbook pro and a chip chart, water bottle and even a small handmade basket I bought at a store.
