From Manufacturer
Available for download, Softube Clouds by Mutable Instruments is designed to integrate with their Modular Platform, which seeks to recreate the popular Eurorack hardware experience within the software realm. This particular module is modeled on a piece of gear by Mutable Instruments called Clouds.
Clouds is a tool that lets you separate individual parts of a signal into segments called droplets, which can be between 16 ms and 1 sec long. The manufacturers liken the process to creating a controlled drip from the faucet of incoming audio streams. Once the audio has been streamed into droplets, you can manipulate each one in a panoply of ways.
You can use Clouds as a one-shot sampler, if you want. You can also use it to robotize an incoming signal or add texture and tone to your audio through irregular, granular delays processed in parallel. Reverb, delay, stereo mangling, pitch-shifting, time-stretching, and more are available through an interface that may take some time to learn. However, discovering all the ramifications of each individual control is intentionally part of the process. This makes the tool practical for enthusiastic sound designers with a love for modular synthesizers.
As this plug-in is part of Softube’s Modular platform, it requires a full install of Modular Virtual Synthesizer. Clouds is compatible with Mac and Windows operating systems.
