Cinestill DF96 overview

  • 1Description

Simplifying film development, this 1L bottle of DF96 from Cinestill is a monobath, self-completing chemistry for use with nearly all black & white film types. Rather than traditional multi-bath processes, with separate developer and fixer chemistries, DF96 is an all-in-one, single-step solution to fully process film in approximately three minutes. DF96 also requires no dilution and is reusable for developing at least 16 rolls of film per liter of chemistry.

As a developer, DF96 is akin to D96 developer and yields a smooth grain structure and tonal curve. Different from D96, though, DF96 requires no subsequent stop bath or fixer; its own fixing capabilities render fully archival results and longer overall processing times will not affect development. Beyond the ease of a single-bath design, DF96 is also meant to be used at room temperature (70-80°F) with development times ranging from six to three minutes for normal results with most films. Push and pull development is possible by adjusting the temperature. Additionally, tabular grain films (such as T-Max and Delta) are also supported, however require twice-as-long processing in order to remove the film's stain during fixing.

Cinestill DF96 reviews

DF96 Monobath for Black & White Film (1L) is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very impressed I come from the world of hc110 - which gives you all the freedom in the world to control contrast. This is the opposite - you have 3 min and you're done. Temp changes very little in terms of contrast compared to hc110. What I love is that EVERY single negative is very scannable. It also makes it easier to assess whether you over or under exposed a shot. I'll always love hc110 for the ability for creative freedom. How ever, df96 is so convenient, practical, and easy to use - on top of producing EXCELLENT results. I'm sticking with this for some time

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quick and Easy Easy one step developer and fixer combo. Much faster and less involved than mixing new chems each developing session- just need to make sure you get the monobath warmed up to the right temp! Also great for me since I don't have much room to store things in my NYC apartment. Been using Cinestill products since the beta version of the 800T was released. They always make good products.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dont waist your time and film on that! Developed 4films few days ago. This is for sure the worst developer I used so far. Every film I did is milky, completly lost of contrast. Do not recoment that. Pict to compare rodinal vs df96 (same negative Acros 100)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product I used this to develop Tmax and Kentmere, and quite flawlessly with a nice rinse after and distilled water before drying. I even used to push Not one but two stops! Results were great.
