I bought {much} cheaper ones' and they failed to work. This one worked first time, every time, no issues. Gets my vote as does B&H for carrying it.

Many of our company users, in the call centers, run dual monitors. I've tried the monoprice brand and it fails after a short amount of time. Since switching to Startech I have not heard any complaints. I buy a lot of Startech adapters and will as long as the quality stays the same. This website always beats everyone else's price as well.

Is it an active adapter?

It has to be active, since it must convert digital data to analog signals. I believe it gets its power from the HDMI connection.
