Hoya S-55INTENS Reviews

Interesting way to enhance nighttime sky shots

I never knew something like this existed - DOH! After reading about it online, I thought I'd try the cheapest version from Hoya on my EOS M5 before springing for the 77mm for my R5. I haven't had a chance to give it a huge workout yet (maybe this week while camping!!) but it's obvious that it does what's advertised. I'm in a suburban area so just went outside, pointed the camera at the sky, making sure I got city lights as a glow on the horizon, and photographed both with and without the filter. It's not a startling difference but it certainly reduced the light pollution noticeably and increased the night sky contrast as expected. So, now to get the 77mm one. BTW, I checked out various brands of filters for this purchase and went with Hoya based on previous experience and overall comments/reviews. I'd rather pay more and get what I expect.

Hi, that lens accepts a 52mm filter, so this 55mm filter will not fit.

Will this filter be effective against light pollution from NYC's new LED street lights?

I spoke to the rep about the NiSi 55mm Natural Night Filter at OPTIC and he said it wouldn't work. Everything seems to be narrow band rejection aimed at sodium vapor lights. I am beginning to think i am on a fool's erand.
