question

will any external speed light battery compatible with canon work with this flash?
Asked by: Nirbhay K.
Being that this flash uses the same HV port as Canon speedlites, you could use an external battery pack as long as it offers a CZ type cable such as those from Quantum, Lumedyne or Bolt.

question

Do yo know of any tutorials or easy user guide for the 685? I am a flash newbie and I am having a hard time making sense of the manual and cannot figure out how to change the zoom and flash power etc either through the 622 - I change the setting on the 622 and even though I'm in ttl, in 622 slave mode and the same channel and group, the settings dont change on the 685 screen. I cannot get them to change manually on the 685 unit either. Please help a frustrated newbie out! thank you!

question

I have a Canon 5D Mk III. Will this eliminate the need for the separate transmitter Canon ST E2? Will it talk to my other YN flashes and/or Canon 580EX II?
Asked by: Pamela F.
The Yongnuo YN685 Wireless TTL Speedlite is very new and from the information listed the YN685 is not a master/commander. It will not control other off camera flashes and it is only radio wireless and does now work with the IR remote like the Canon ST-E2.Current compatible transmitter units include YN-622C-TX, YN-622C / YN622C IIYN560-TX, YN560IV FlashRF-605, RF-603 IIWith the YN-622C-TX and YN-622C / YN622C II transmitters providing the most functionality, including ETTL, HSS, SCS, Remote Manual Power and Flash Head Zoom Control.

My flash won't fire when I press the pilot button and will only fire once in a while, but everything else communicates with the camera well. How do I fix this?

That is difficult to determine without knowing more or seeing the product first hand. Please call, email or if you can come in to the store so we can see it firsthand.

question

Can I use a SB-700 in commander mode and use a group of these in slave if the SB-700 is mounted on top of my body and getting iTTL from the camera? Basically I'm trying to find a way to incorporate using the SB-700 and not have to add more SB units but instead use these instead due to similar performance and lower price points.
Asked by: Lincoln H.
Unfortunately, this flash does not offer an optical slave option in TTL. What you could do is use Yongnuo YN-622N i-TTL Wireless Flash Transceiver & TX Controller Kit for Nikon B&H # YO622NKIT instead. By placing the YN 622 TX on your Nikon DSLR and the YN 622N II Transceiver on your SB-700, you can then have the YN 685 flash fire wirelessly in TTL using its built in receiver. Please see the image below for reference.

question

Thinking of getting a RoveLight 600 Ws Monolight with (Bowens Mount) & I have a YN622N-tx & 1 YN622N-rx. Anything else I need to trigger the monolight? Also, can I control the power output from the YN622N-tx controller? If not, how should I set it up? Thanks. If I get the monolight, I would have it plus 1 Nikon SB700 which I'm hoping would be enough to light a reception room instead of having to carry around more than two flashes.
Asked by: Maibel Z.
Unfortunately, B&H is not an authorized RoveLight dealer and we do not carry RoveLight or accessories. To connect the Yongnuo i-TTL Transceiver YN622N II to your monolight, you may purchase the Impact Sync Cord Male Mini (3.5mm) to Male PC (1'), B&H # IMMMPCM1. You would not be able to adjust the output power of a monolight when using the Yongnuo i-TTL Transceiver YN622N II for Nikon. The Yongnuo transceiver is designed to allow you to adjust the output power of hot shoe speedlight TTL flash which connects to the hot shoe on the top of the transceiver. When connecting the unit to a studio strobe using a PC sync cable, you would not maintain the ability to control the unit's output power. I would have to recommend contacting the manufacturer of the monolight you wish to purchase to inquire if they have a radio remote trigger that would allow you to control the output power of the unit wirelessly.
