Fantastic sound for the price.

I purchased this as a replacement for a high-end turntable that was getting quite tired.  This Yamaha unit looks very elegant--much more expensive looking than it costs-- and the sound is great.    The speed consistency is perhaps the best part of the sound--very, very  solid which makes for wonderful bass.  I also wanted to purchase a turntable from a company that has a  reputation for quality at a reasonable price and backs up the customer in the long run.  Consider this:   The price of replacing just the stylus (the needle) for my old high end unit was more than the cost of this entire turntable--which is sort of crazy--unless you are very, very rich.   Oh, and If you need to replace the stylus of the  Yamaha TT-S303,  you can do so at a  reasonable cost.   Another  nice feature is that you can play this turntable through an outboard phono pre-amp or utilize the built in pre-amp--very nice.  Finally, and perhaps most importantly,  my wife thinks it looks great in our living room.

Hi, I’m not finding a lot online to help decide which turntable to purchase in the $500 price range. Would you recommend the Yamaha TT-S303 Turntable or the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Turntable. Is it worth spending another $100 on the Rega Planar 1 Turntable with Carbon cartridge? Any other brand/models you would recommend?

The Pro-Ject Audio Systems Debut Carbon DC Turntable with 8.6" Carbon Fiber Tonearm (Black) BH #PRDCATTBK will do a fine job and compares very well with pricier products.

This is a manual turntable. The tone arm does not automatically rise when the record finishes playing.
