By limiting the back scatter and ceiling bounce, this provides better contrast for portraits. It seems to give the light more punch, too, when used with a barebulb flash w/out reflector.
Elastic too tight

I wanted a lightweight, soft light source that had a nice fall off. This seemed to fit the bill. However, the elastic seems to tight and bends my umbrella in.
