If you're using the drive with only one operating system, you can optimize the drive's performance by reformatting it as NFTS for Windows or HFS+/APFS for macOS.

The manufacturer does not provide/publish that information. What can be said is that LaCie is a Seagate company. The speed of the internal drive is "7200 rpm Disk Speed."

Hi Karl - I would say without knowing the exact video content being edited, that our d2 does a great job on most basic to intermediate video editing without performance degradation. However with the introduction to higher resolutions, audio bitrates and other types of resource heavy file formats, some users might need to upgrade to our 1big dock SSD option.

I understand that this drive cannot be daisy-chained with other drives because it has just one port. But I assume I could connect it to just one other external hard drive in order to back up files from that drive to the D2. In other words, the D2 does not have to be connected directly to the computer. Correct?

I want to use a LaCie d2 USB 3.1 drive to store my photo libraries, so they don't take up space on my internal hard drive. I want to create a backup on a second external drive. Is there an easy way to attach a second external drive to the LaCie d2 3.1 USB?
This drive only has one port to connect it to the computer. One would not be able to plug a second drive into it.
