It worked okay however I had to twist my ethernet connection upside down to get the full speed otherwise it performed at USB 2.0 speed

It should be safe - the single power and ground pins on the A map to the multiple power pins on the C. You may not get the higher charge rate that a straight type C charger would be capable of.

The Rocstor USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C Female to USB Type-A Male Adapter, BH #ROY10A207A1 has nickel connector plating however they both have the same transfer speed.

The Rocstor USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C Female to Type-A Male Adapter is purpose built for data transfer, not charging. The wattage would be basic USBA wattage ~5W.

I have a WebCam that connects via USB-C. My eight-year-old Dell laptop does not have any USB-C ports. Consequently, I'm trying to find an adapter that can handle video. So far, my search has been fruitless. Most of the adapters I'm finding are "charge only." Will this adapter suit my needs?

This is also for data transfer, based on: 1. I am using it to attach a wired keyboard to my Mac (so is transferring data through use of the keyboard and also when I plug a flash drive into the USB jacks that are integrated into the keyboard and transfer files. 2. Also in the product description on the B&H site, it lists the maximum data transfer through the adapter: "Being USB 3.1 Gen 1 compatible, it supports data transfer speeds up to 5 Gb/s." The connections are nice and snug, better than a similar adapter I bought a few years ago, and less expensive. I have been using it for about 3 months, a good product so far.
