Grip Gear Movie Maker 2 Overview

The Grip Gear Movie Maker 2 is a motorized slider and a 360° panorama and time-lapse system for small cameras and smartphones weighing up to 1.7 lb. The system features two 12" tracks and a motorized slider carriage that can be used on the tracks or independently for 360° panoramic shots. Movie Maker 2 lets you capture smooth, motion-controlled shots of various types.

Offering a 1/4"-20 tripod mount thread on the bottom of each track, the slider can be set up on a tripod and used horizontally, slanted at different angles, and even vertically at 90°, all with up to the same 1.7 lb load. It operates at nine different speeds from 4 to 1000mm per minute, and the slowest speed is ideal for time-lapse capture over long periods. The speed is displayed on an LCD on the slider carriage. The same controls are also provided on the slider carriage. No mobile apps are required for operation. Continuous motion can also be selected, so the slider carriage moves back in the opposite direction when reaching the end of the track. The slider can also be used manually by hand control. Extra tracks, sold separately, can be added to lengthen the travel distance of the slider.

The slider carriage is where all the electronics are. The slider tracks are designed with teeth along their length that the carriage travels on. The slider carriage features a built-in battery that runs for approximately two hours. The battery is rechargeable using an included USB cable. Additionally, you can connect an optional USB power bank for extended runtimes, ideal for time-lapse capture. A 10,000mAh power bank can provide up to 30+ hours of operation.

The slider carriage can be removed and used separately from the slider. It electronically rotates 360° and can be used to capture real-time or time-lapse panorama shots. The slider carriage also features a 1/4"-20 tripod mount thread on the bottom so it can be mounted on tripods, mini tripods, suction cups, and various other support gear. It can even be used upside down. Furthermore, it's compatible with the optional Grip Gear Micro Dolly, which is a tabletop dolly designed specifically for this carriage.

The slider legs have individually adjustable feet that can be set up at different angles to compensate for uneven ground. The two tracks, the slider carriage, and the legs are all lightweight and assemble and break down quickly for portability. Your camera mounts onto a ball head with a 1/4"-20 screw on top of the slider carriage. There is also a 3/8"-16 threaded hole on the slider carriage for accessories. An optional 1/4"-20 mount smartphone mount is required for attaching a phone.

Grip Gear Movie Maker 2 Reviews

Flexing head unit

Cheap is not alway bad thing but in this case it is. The motorized head unit is weak and flimgy. When I mount the GoPro 10 with an adapter to /20 mount and mount the head unit to the tripod, the head unit's base flexes too much due to thin plastic casing. I don't have a solid. I would like to return it but I do not have a original box so I'm stuck with it. I do not recommend this product, spend the money and buy the good stuff.

Tiny Slider

This tiny slider does exactly what it says it does - and does it very well. For the price and coupled with my iPhone or my DJI Osmo I can capture some cool shots in unusual places. Very portable and no operating issues thus far!

Would this support the weight of a Sony Alpha 6500?
Asked by: Quinn
That will depend on the lens being used. This product supports up to 1.7 pounds, it can be used with the A6500, you would just need to use a smaller lens with it.

The Grip Gear Movie Maker 2 Motorized Slider with Extra Track Kit slider features a built-in battery that runs for approximately two hours. The battery is rechargeable using an included USB cable. A standard 5V 3A USB-A power source would be required.
