We ordered this without knowing exactly what to expect. It's 12x12 and doesn't disassemble any smaller than that. You'll be strapping these to your roof if you have to travel with it, but we bought a strap kit like the kind you'd use to attach a small boat to your roof and it worked great. This rig comes with the attachements that connect to your light stands, and I'd make sure you had some heavy duty ones. You'll need them.

what type of stands would you need to support this safely? Would this be too big for c stands?
This would best be mounted on Hollywood Combo Stands or Medium Overhead Rollers. Combo stands are better suited for location work or uneven terrain and Roller stands are ideal for stage work and level surfaces.

Sounds like a mistake on the B&H site, that is the length of our 8’x8’.
