Think Tank Photo D 24-70 V3.0 overview

  • 1Description

Protect your camera and lens with the Hydrophobia D 24-70 V3.0 Rain Cover from Think Tank. This cover has a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) coating and is made from three layers of material for durability. It is also seam-sealed for added protection against rain, sleet, snow, sand, and dust. Fold it down to fit into the included compact carrying pouch and slip it into your camera bag so you're prepared in a downpour or sand storm.

This cover will fit over a DSLR camera with a 24-70mm f/2.8 or similarly-sized lens attached. It has a non-slip, adjustable strap that cinches to the lens hood so it stays put once in place. It can be used while shooting atop a tripod or monopod and has an oversized window for viewing your LCD and controls. Additionally, two cinchable sleeves provide easy access to your camera functions.

An eyepiece flap folds into a visor or shields the viewfinder from rain or dust when not in use. An eyepiece pocket is built into the bottom of the cover and the separately available eyepiece allows full access to your viewfinder while protecting your camera.

The integrated shoulder strap lets you wear the camera on your shoulder with the cover attached. It can be replaced with your favorite strap if desired.

Fits over a DSLR camera with a 24-70mm f/2.8, 24-105mm f/4, 16-35mm f/2.8, 14-24mm f/2.8, or similarly-sized lens

    Think Tank Photo D 24-70 V3.0 reviews

    Hydrophobia D 24-70 V3.0 Rain Cover is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best there is. I own the new Hydrophobia D 24-70 v3.0, as well as the Hydrophobia 70-200 v2.0, and one made by Katana (don't recall the model number). I've used mine in heavy downpours as well as heavy surf and can attest to the great protection these covers offer against the elements. Thinktank makes the best there is in the market. The only thing better would be an underwater hard case. However, there are four drawbacks to this kind system: 1. Clumsy to put on. Takes a bit of fidgeting to install and it's easier to do it when you have a flat surface to work on. It's not something you'll want to throw on when it starts to rain, then take off when the rain stops, then throw on again when the rain starts again. It's too much trouble and you'll miss shots. Once it's on, keep it on. 2. Better to install the cover BEFORE it starts to rain/snow. With your hands in the cover, condensation will build and fog up the clear plastic from the inside making it difficult to see the LCD. It gets exponentially worse if you wait to install the cover AFTER it starts to rain, as any moisture that falls on your camera, on your hands, even inside your cover during installation will exacerbate condensation build up and make it almost impossible to see thru the clear plastic window. And since the condensation is on the inside, it's impossible to wipe away. 3. The plastic window will start to "craze" (get cloudy) and maybe within a year or so. The issue can be minimized by storing the cover unfolded and hanging. It will still craze, but not as bad as when it's folded and stored in the included pouch. So DO NOT store the cover long-term in its pouch. I hang mine from coat hangers in the closet. The soft plastic will also scratch very easily. You can remove some of the craze and scratches with a liquid plastic polish, which YOU WILL buy, but the clear plastic will never look as good as when new, never. 4. It's bulky. Even folded neatly into the carry case, the Hydrophobia D 24-70 is somewhat bulky. My micro-down jacket folds more compactly. And as you know, most camera bags are designed to just fit your camera and lenses. Forget about storage for a jacket, water, glasses, first aid, snacks, and rain covers. Ok, I'm being a bit snarky here, but I think you can understand.
