Vello MFB-12 Reviews

Amazing!

Absolutely amazing! I was skeptical with some of the reviews, but I would disregard them. Nothing else out there for this price. I haven't taken this thing off my D850 since I got it. I use it with a small diffuser with a 90mm macro, and then without a diffuser with a 28mm for a direct flash look. Exactly what I was looking for. There is also a thread on the bottom where you can attach a tripod mount. It even fits an L bracket. This is a MUST BUY if you are looking for a side mount flash bracket.

Nice for On Camera Flash

I love this bracket. I rarely use on-camera flash but once in a while I do and I hate how my speed light sits on top of the camera as I normally shoot in portrait mode. This gets the speed light on the left side of my camera (Nikon D850 and 28-70 f2.8) ; so when I rotate the camera it feels better balanced and gets the light off axis and slightly above the lens. It even works in TTL mode if you have the right Nikon cable. (which I do)

Perfection.

This bracket is just the right size for what I am working with now. I still have my regular flash brackets, and they're still my choice for big jobs. This one is lighter and much more compact. Perfect for on the go work.

Perfect for removing shadows in vertical shots

Excellent value for money, thank you Vello. Perfect for DSLR balance and flash, but even more to bring the head of the flash of the lens and eliminate shadows in vertical framing. (Look at the photos of the paparazzi on the red carpet in Hollywood they use this system) Optimal aversion with a vertical grip. Thank you B & H for offering us a product as effective!

One fatal flaw - puts the flash next to camera grip

Well made, sturdy but light but apparently the designer never used a camera. Could have worked great, if the extended part were on the left side, so that the photographer could use the right hand for holding the grip and operating major camera controls. And use the left hand to grip the bracket with attached flash for better stability. Unfortunately the bracket puts heavy flash next to already heavy right battery side of the camera. To make the matter worse it leaves a very narrow space between the flash and camera grip and also hinders the controls.

Great with Canon R5 and Profoto A1

This keeps the flash close to the lens for all those punchy on-camera vibes. I put the flash on a cold shoe and a trigger on the R5's hot shoe.

Too loose, too short

I purchased the bracket for mounting a small focus assist light for nighttime macro shots.I've had a difficult time getting the bracket mounted tight enough so that is does not swivel or rotate at the slightest bump. Also, the bracket is a bit too short to get my focusing light out from behind my macro lens-mounted flashes.

Hi, Not with Vello. For the flash on the left the ProMediaGear Paparazzi Bracket is best suited with these modular parts.

will this fit a z6 with the ftz adapter?
Asked by: Pirhan
the Vello MFB-12 has three separate camera mount channel options for the 1/4-2" screw mount so there are a variety of of positioning options available for mounting to the base of the Nikon Z6. The Nikon FTZ adapter also incorporates a 1/4-20" socket at its base providing another mounting option - but large speedlights might cause excessive strain on the lens mount, so that configuration is not recommended.
