The Auray MS-GIGBOOM is a telescoping boom arm designed for Auray products, particularly the Travelers Mic Stand. With the MS-GIGBOOM, you get an extra 16 to 28.5" of range, and this gives you more flexibility in your mic setups. For instance, singing guitarists can use the MS-GIGBOOM to angle the microphone over their pedalboards, so they don't have to lose sight of their stompboxes while they sing.

Can this attach to a standard light stand? Or do I need an attachment?
Asked by: Marco
The original question is perfectly worded for my own question. I'm a photographer with various photographic light stands (bogen/etc), various tips. 1/4 inch, etc. I also shoot video for my newspaper and with COVID19, must maintain distance, so no hand-holding close to subject with a mic with XLR cable back to the video camera on a tripod during interviews/pressers. Sounds like this boom arm is industry standard for connecting to ANY stand, is that correct?

What is this arm's max weight capacity when fully extended?
Asked by: Aaron
I'm not aware of any specification for the weight capacity. In practice, I would think that it's strong enough for most any dynamic or handheld condenser vocal mic. I'm not sure I would trust it with a large diameter condenser studio mic/shock mount. Hope that is helpful.

What is this boom arm's max weight capacity? The mic I want to use is roughly 3-3.5 lbs with the shock mount.
Asked by: Aaron
The manufacturer has not specified a maximum weight capacity, but the Auray MS-GIGBOOM is intended for use with lighter weight mics, like a traditional handheld style vocal mic. You may want to consider using something with better counterweight like the Ultimate Support Ulti-Boom Pro Telescoping Microphone Boom (B&H # ULTSMB) which has a 0.65 lb counterweight, or the Atlas Sound B2237 Platinum Design Series 37" Microphone Stand Boom (B&H # ATB2237) which has a 0.5 lb counterweight, or the Atlas Sound PB15EB Fixed-Length 34" Microphone Boom (B&H # ATPB15E) which has a 2 lb counterweight.
