LightPix Labs FlashQ Q20II Overview

  • 1Description

The compact, lightweight FlashQ Q20II from LightPix Labs is a cost-efficient, manual-exposure lighting solution with advanced triggering and control features. The flash weighs just 4 oz and measures 3.9 x 2.3 a 1.1", making it easy to squeeze into tight places where larger units can't go. With a guide number of 65, the Q20II has manual power selection from 1/64 to full power, runs on two alkaline or rechargeable Ni-MH batteries, and will recycle to full power in 6 to 7 seconds depending on the batteries in use. One of the flash's clever features is the RF transmitter built into its removable foot and the receiver built into the body of the unit. By detaching the transmitter and mounting the flash head remotely on a light stand, you can adjust power and trigger it from the on-camera transmitter at distances up to 33'. In fact, the transmitter can control up to eight Q20IIs simultaneously. Convenience features include a flash head with a built-in filter holder and tilting capability in 0, 45, 60, 75, and 90-degree click stops. Finally, a pleasant surprise is the Q20II's LED light which can be used as a modeling light, or with its high CRI of 95, used as a 5600K video light.

Manual Flash Power Control
The Q20II allows you set the flash output from 1/64 (minimum output) to 1/1 (maximum output). These 7 steps of flash power ratios can be adjusted by two buttons.
Remote Triggering Power Level Adjustment
The Q20II functions like a typical on-camera flash while attached to the included shoe-mount FlashQ transmitter. Detaching the flash puts it into wireless mode allowing it to be used off-camera. Wireless triggering and power level adjustment can then be accomplished via the camera-mounted transmitter. The Q20II's FlashQ System can support up to 8 remote Q20II flashes simultaneously.
The Q20II runs on two AA alkaline batteries or two rechargeable Ni-MH batteries. The transmitter can be conveniently charged via USB.
Rectangular Shape
The 3.9 x 2.3 x 1.1" flash is easy to squeeze into tight spaces.
LED Video / Modeling Light
The Q20II features an LED light with 7 output levels for use as a modeling light or with its CRI of 95, used as a video light. The light has a 60-minute run time with fresh batteries.
Tripod or Light Stand Mount
Built-in female 1/4"-20 threads allow the Q20II to be mounted on a tripod or light stand.
Tilting Head, Built-in Gel Filter Holder
The Q20II has a built-in gel filter and can tilt in 0, 45, 60, 75, and 90-degrees click stops.

    LightPix Labs FlashQ Q20II Reviews

FlashQ Q20II (Black) is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Inexpensive, versatile off-camera flash option This $70 flash is actually a wireless strobe body with an integrated flash-mount controller. Once you figure out how to turn the setup on and pair the transmitter and the flash body, youve got compact off-camera flash solution for reasonably close-up work. AND, you can synch a second flash body with the first so that the single hot-shoe trigger controls two bodies. Its pure manual (no auto exposure), so off the cuff shots take some preparation. Theres seven steps of output control per flash body. For static prepared shots (portraits, product shots, macro work), its quick to get a great exposure with simple trial and error adjustment. The rechargeable battery upkeep is a bit of a pain. Turning the system on and pairing the trigger and the body isnt quick or intuitive. Otherwise it would be five stars.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Mostly Improved Over Mk I Compared with the original Q20, its easier to connect the transmitter to the flash, and it seems to stay connected more consistently. The transmitter now is rechargeable instead of relying on replaceable cells, which is a mixed blessing. No more having to change cells, but If your transmitter runs out of juice you cant just pop in a new battery. Jurys still out on how long a charge lasts, but the good news is it charges up fairly quick.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Marvelous, for the money. I ordered 3 for Christmas presents from B&H for $55 per unit. You cannot expect them to act like a $500 speedlight, or monolight like you would if you were shooting with a Nikon D850, but it’s the PERFECT flash for my FUJI X 100s as a fill light or main light at family gatherings...With the Fuji’s leaf shutter, I can even shoot HSS (high speed sync) !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lightpix labs flash is a hit This flash is simply fantastic!  It works with any camera (Pentax, Sigma, Olympus, Fuji, Sony for me) and is easy to use. Also, the quality of light is great. Its small size allows you to bring it anywhere and have plenty of light output at a moments notice. I recommend it highly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very convenient Very smart small flash. Very easy to use off camera. Easy intuitive controls. Powerful enough for fill flash with a leaf shutter allowing fast synch speeds of 1/1000 sec. and large aperture.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from affordable and versatile Overall simple and versatile, but lack of flash power and no speed lighting. After one shot, have to wait 2-3 seconds for charging flash. But it is only $69, so i satisfied what i paid for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple and It Works A GN20 flash that is easy to operate and works as advertised. The Flash can be quickly moved from on to off camera. The remote is simple to use and very compact.
