Slik CF-834 Overview

The SLIK Pro CF-834 Tripod is constructed from carbon fiber to maximize durability while limiting weight. It supports up to 15.4 lb and measures 18.9" when folded. Each of its 4-section legs feature independent spread, a 3-position angle lock, twist locks for rapid deployment, and rubber feet to help enhance stability on a wide variety of surfaces. The included push-and-pull, rapid center column is removable, which permits a minimum height of 7.5". The SLIK Pro CF-834 Tripod provides a maximum height of 52.2" and 65" with the column fully raised.

Tripod heads, cameras, lenses, or sport optics with 1/4"-20 or 3/8"-16 female accessory threads can be directly connected to the reversible mount on top of the tripod's center column. For added versatility, the center column is reversible, facilitating low-angle photography where an attached camera is positioned among the tripod's legs instead of above them. To further enhance stability on a wider variety of surfaces, including soft and uneven soil, the rubber feet can be removed and replaced with a separately available SLIK 618-410 Spiked Foot Set.

Slik CF-834 Reviews

Nice Tripod

I bought this while it was on sale with the Slik PBH-45LP Ball Head. I didn't bother getting spikes, which are sold seperately for the tripod feet (had them on another tripod, and didn't use them), and am fine with this coming with only rubber feet considering the price. This suits my needs of having a fairly light and robust tripod for hiking miles into the mountains while keeping my pack weight down. I've used this with a Z9 and 400mm lens and easily got sharp photos in a stiff cross wind with no problem, and also shot crisp 10 minute astro photo exposures and it's rock solid. I've owned Manfroto and Oben tripods over the years, and find this one to be very good and think it will provide me with many years of good service.

Not the quality I have expected ...

As an addition to my previous review I would like to point out that previously mentioned low stiffness is mostly contributed by the smallest section (19mm) section. This size of 19mm is good but the stiffness was bad when these 19mm sections were fully extended. I think the current Slik models use different carbon fiber compare to their older versions. I had Slik Pro 713 CF about 9 years ago and never experienced any similar problems with it. that's why I decided to buy the newest Slik Pro 834 CF expecting at least same quality level. I was wrong. The older model had built-in spikes and it was very convenient but the new one does not. The Slik Pro 834 CF I've got came in unnecessary large box with the half (?) extended second sections. It looked very strange. The leg position locks are outdated and should be redesigned. I believe Slik representatives should read all negative reviews about their products and improve the quality if they don't want to loose customers. I've send email to Slik customer service 2 weeks ago. No response ...

Unfortunately Does Not Meet Expectations ...

I was happy to get the Slik CF-834 on sale at B&H. I bought it to replace my older Manfrotto 055MF4. Unfortunately I am going to return it. I have two old carbon fiber tripods Manfrotto 055MF4 and Velbon El Carmagne 540. I discovered that both my old tripods are more resistant to the vibrations than the new Slik CF-834. Both the Slik CF-834 and the Manfrotto 055MF4 have 4 sections, basically same height and tube diameters. Moreover, the smallest section of the Slik CF-834 is a bit larger compare to the Manfrotto. What is the advantage of the tripod that is conveniently short when closed, conveniently high enough when extended without a central post, able to carry 15.4 lbs but has low stiffness and low resistance to the vibrations? None. I am disappointed and unsatisfied. Even though the Slik CF-834 according to its specs supposed to be better, my old tripods are more reliable in getting sharp images.
