Evoluent VerticalMouse 4 Overview

The VerticalMouse 4 Small Wireless is a black and brown mouse from Evoluent that's designed to provide comfort for right-handed users thanks to its ergonomic build. Unlike conventional mice, the VerticalMouse 4 Small Wireless is sculpted in a standing position and has an integrated thumb rest, so you can click away without having to twist your arm or extend your fingers far.

Aside from being able to withstand long hours of work, the VerticalMouse 4 Small Wireless is also responsive with its adjustable optical sensor. Furthermore, it has a built-in extended lip to prevent uncomfortable chafing against your desk or mouse pad. When you need to know this mouse's pointer speed, make sure to look at its top-mounted LED indicators.

Provided along with the mouse, you'll receive a driver that works with Windows, Mac, and Linux systems. However, you can still use the VerticalMouse 4 Small Wireless without it since this mouse utilizes 2.4 GHz wireless connectivity.

Ergonomic Design

The Evoluent VerticalMouse 4 Small Wireless is designed for comfort with easy-to-reach programmable buttons. This means no finger contortions are needed to operate these buttons.

Integrated Thumb Rest

Evoluent has sculpted this mouse's thumb rest into a shape that provides comfort while in use.

Two Thumb Buttons

Near the bottom of the mouse, there are two thumb buttons built in to provide extended functionality when used with the included driver.

Extended Lip

This mouse features an extra wide lip along the bottom edge, which is meant to prevent your last finger from rubbing against a desk or similar surface.

Wireless Connectivity

The Evoluent VerticalMouse 4 Small Wireless connects to Windows and Mac systems via its 2.4 GHz mini receiver.

Adjustable Optical Sensor

Pointer speed controls on the side allow convenient adjustment without even releasing your grip from the mouse.

Pointer Speed Indicators

Top-mounted LEDs show through the chrome thumb rest to indicate the selected pointer speed, including extra low, low, medium, and high.

Powerful and Intuitive Driver

The Evoluent Mouse Manager provides extensive but easy-to-use functionality for six buttons through a simple and intuitive interface.

Compatibility

Looks weird but is ergonomically functional! Gf has been using it for a couple of weeks and her carpal tunnel issues are not bothering her.

From the people who invented the vertical mouse this is one fantastic device. I have all the buttons programed to do exactly what I want. The two thumb buttons are truly useful. As always B&H handled my order quickly and it arrived in perfect condition.

    Great but they don't last

I have owned four of these and from an ergonomic standpoint - they are fantastic - they really give relief to CTS and wrist fatigue. However, as a mouse - they are terrible. I've never had one last more than a year. They all eventually become skippy and intermittent and stop working. It is so frustrating to have a mouse that feels so good to use, but is a terrible at being just a mouse. But I've ordered my last one - I'll have to find another solution.

Difficult to adjust to, but indispensable after that

On my 2nd one; 1st lasted over 8 years. (Also have a right-handed one.) Got my first one around the same time as getting a Kinesis Freestyle keyboard, and this mouse took longer to acclimate to. It's not just that it's vertical mouse, it's a different shape. Usable initially, but comfortable in a few days ... so much so, that I had to get one for my work computer. Not convinced that it would be helpful? Hold out your mouse arm, straight away from your body, and rotate it till your hand is in position to use a normal mouse. Now rotate that same arm so the thumb is in the highest position of any digit. Which position is more comfortable? Extra buttons: Top button is for left clicks, middle for right clicks, bottom button is for double left clicks. Thumb controls forward & reverse web page navigation. And the scroll wheel displays the desktop. Thought these extra buttons were gimmicks, but now I cannot live without them.

    Super comfortable & truly ergonomic

This is the second Evoluent mouse I have owned. They are the most comfortable truly ergonomic mouse on the market. I have tried several. As an architect I use a lot of design softwares that require a high level of mouse control, not unlike gaming. This mouse saved me from Carpal Tunnel syndrome after a string of long deadlines. It's expensive, but just as worth it as a truly comfortable desk chair. I highly recommend this for daily use.

    Comfy

I love the shape and feel of this mouse. If only this thing had a better sensor and a lighter weight, I would use it for gaming. The chrome finish on the thumb concave and the mouse buttons means they get dirty and feel icky very quickly. But at the end of the day, all the cons are negated by the amazing shape. There is nothing with a shape as comfortable as this on the market.

    No more wrist pain

I've been using the Evoluent VerticalMouse for several years. I've used both the wireless and wired (USB) versions. They have completely solved my wrist pain problem coming from conventional mouse use. I'd give this product 5 stars if they were more reliable. The scroll wheels begin to skip after about a year of use. For me, it's worth it.
