BOYA BY-MM1 Overview

The BY-MM1 Mini Cardioid Condenser Microphone from BOYA is a lightweight, compact, electret condenser microphone that is designed to improve the sound quality of videos on cameras that incorporate built-in microphones. It is compatible with smartphones, consumer camcorders, computers, and other audio/video recording devices that can supply the necessary plug-in power for the mic.

The BY-MM1 microphone offers real plug-and-play design and operates on plug-in power from your device, so no battery is needed. It is built with aluminum construction and includes a shockmount, carrying pouch, and furry windshield. Also included a 3.5mm TRS to 3.5mm TRS cable for cameras, camcorders, and audio recorders and 3.5mm TRS to TRRS mini-jack cable for smartphones, tablets, or Mac computers.

I've been using this mic for a couple videos now and like the quality that I've seen so far. I'm mainly using this inside my studio on a boom which is about 12 inches above my head pointed at my face. At this distance the quality it great. Not as clear as a lav but it's nice to be able to have a mic setup on a more permanent basis. As other reviews have said, the red mic clip is a little flimsy and I've taken advice to be gently with it. Overall though, I'd recommend this mic and you can't beat it for the price. I paid for this mic and didn't receive anything in exchange for my review.

This mic requires Plug-in Power from either a camera, recorder, or smartphone over the trs or trrs mic input connection.

No, the BOYA BY-MM1 Mini Cardioid Condenser Microphone is not compatible for direct connection to the Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 4K. The BY-MM1 requires plug-in power which the camera does not provide through its 3.5mm mic input. As another option, you may want to consider the BOYA BY-BM3011 Camera-Mount Cardioid Shotgun Microphone ( B&H # BOBYBM3011) or the Opteka VM-8 Directional Mini-Shotgun Microphone (B&H # OPOPVM8) which both operate using a single AAA battery and are around the same price. Any other battery-powered mic with a 3.5mm TRS connector will also work with the BMPCC4K.

No, the BOYA BY-MM1 Mini Cardioid Condenser Microphone is not compatible for use with the Canon EOS Rebel T7 DSLR Camera because the camera does not have an input to connect an external microphone. You would need to connect the BOYA mic to a separate audio recorder.
