I am considering the Canon 16-35 f/2.8 lens (or the f/4) for use on my 80D. In view of the reported severe vignetting would that be a problem with the 80D? It has the APS-C sensor which uses less of the image circle cast by the lens, especially in the corners. So I'm thinking it might be a good fit. I can up ISO by a factor of 2, minimum, to make up for the slower f/4 and get IS to boot while saving a bunch of money. But either lens could be acceptable. Any comments would be welcome.
You would not see any vignetting when using this lens on a cropped sensor camera, it would work very well on your 80D.

Yes you will get distortion at 16mm -- standard for any zoom lens. It quickly dissipates when you get to like 20mm.

How well does the 16-35mm f/2.8 L III perform with the demanding sensor of the Canon EOS 90D?
Thank you for your responses. I purchased this lens from B&H, and I am very happy with it. I use it on my 90D as mentioned and now my 5DSr as well.
