Yes or No. Can a shutter release cable be attached when the L plate is in Portrait mode? In Portrait mode, the port side of the camera is facing down towards the ballhead plate. It seems like the plate would prevent access to the camera ports.
The only shutter release cable that would work in portrait mode with this L Bracket would be ones with a 90 degree plug. Any straight plugs will not fit. The alternative would be to use the app and make it wireless.

"all without obstruction of the camera's LCD monitor". I don't see how it is possible not to obstruct the LCD monitor from rotating when its flipped out. Can someone let me know if it is truly unobstructed?

You should not get any wear on the body from the L bracket.
