Since the lens is further away from the sensor will it effect the distance?

No because the lens is at the same distance. This because the RF cameras are mirroreless and shorter. Your question is correct if you are asking for an EF adaptor. Hope this helps and excuse my bad english

No. There is no glass element. It's basically a mount adapter that increases the spacing to allow the FD lens to hit the mirrorless focal plane properly.
